“Pumpkins are lovable and their wonderfully wild and humorous atmosphere never ceases to capture the hearts of people. I adore pumpkins. As my spiritual home since childhood, and with their infinite spirituality, they contribute to the peace of mankind across the world and to the celebration of humanity. And by doing so, they make me feel at peace” - Yayoi Kusama

Kikuo Saito was a Japanese-born American abstract painter with ties to the Color Field movement and Lyrical abstraction. A former assistant to , , and , Saito's work infuses richly saturated colorscapes with delicately drawn lines. Saito was the creator of sui generis theatre and dance events, collaborating with innovative directors and choreographers Robert Wilson, Peter Brook, Jerome Robbins, and dancer and choreographer Eva Maier, to whom he was married for several decades. His productions combined wordless drama in the poetic frameworks of light, costumes, music, and dance, most of which he devised and directed himself.
This work will be on display at Upsilon Gallery UES as part of the upcoming exhibition, Chroma, opening November 11.

One of Calder’s most iconic works, the forty-three-foot tall La Grande vitesse in Grand Rapids was the first sculpture to be funded by the public art program of the National Endowment for the Arts (@neaarts). The stabile anchors Calder Plaza, standing in dramatic dialogue with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s (@skidmoreowingsmerrill) city hall building. Over the past five decades, La Grande vitesse has become synonymous with Grand Rapids, appearing on everything from its street signs to its sewer grates. In the 1950s American painter Cy Twombly wrote that the act of painting could come out of ‘one ecstatic impulse’. 🖌️ 50 years later he created this bright red series, by attaching a paint-soaked brush to the end of a pole. This series is titled after Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and intoxication, whose rituals involved drunkenness and ecstatic dancing. Discover the artist's spectacular canvases and swirling throws of paint—on free display at Tate Modern. 🩸 @tate #upsilongallery #cytwombly
