Color Casita is part of a multi-phase residential renovation project designed for a family in Menlo Park. Following a rear addition and interior remodel of the main house, this ADU supports multigenerational living while preserving privacy and flexibility across the property.

Materially and visually, the 540 sq-ft ADU draws from the main residence, echoing its emphasis on durable finishes and vibrant, personal design. Custom millwork, efficient layouts, and a full wall of built-in cabinetry maximize function within the compact footprint. The interiors prioritize warmth, simplicity, and adaptability, ensuring longevity while supporting evolving family needs.

Wood, W**e & Spirits - Part 2 🥃

Huge thanks to JT for putting together an absolutely stellar evening. The bar was built around side-by-side pours that put oak to the test: Tequila, Bourbon, and W**e. AMAH Foods cooked skewers over open hibachi grills for the evening (the pork belly was a highlight!)

Thank you to everyone who poured, cooked, and came out to taste with us at the Navy Yard.

Last Wednesday, Linda Cirigliano of brought 28 people from across New York’s building world to one table: the 7-meter Rashid Johnson mosaic table in Manuela’s private dining room in SoHo. The evening started with ch*****ne and a gallery visit at Hauser & Wirth.

The guest list reflected how a project actually comes together in this city: architects, interior designers, MEP and HVAC engineers, general contractors, brokers, attorneys, risk and insurance advisors, and more. Seats rotated with each of the three courses, so everyone spent the night talking with someone new.

The team even made room for a little birthday surprise in the middle of it all. Thank you, Linda, for building a room where our industry could all sit at the same table. 💫

Wood, W**e & Spirits - Part 1 🍷

Earlier this month, we co-hosted Wood, W**e & Spirits with in his shop and millwork studio at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The premise: bring our creative partners into a working woodshop and spend an evening exploring how wood shapes what we build, eat, and drink.

With glasses in hand in the woodshop, our community did what it does best: traded ideas, met new collaborators, and talked craft late into the evening. Gathering the people we work with for a night of craft, creativity, and connection is one of our favorite parts of what we do, and we couldn’t have asked for a better room for it.

Thank you to J Thomas Company for opening the shop, and to everyone who came out.

Linda Cirigliano has a case for renaming her own profession. “Sometimes I think the term should be owner’s advocate more so than owner’s representative,” the founder told Catherine Sweeney on the latest episode of Women at WIRC from .

Before founding LC Three 11 years ago, Linda spent 15 years as a project manager in high-end New York City residential construction. Many of the owner’s reps she worked with then came from legal or financial backgrounds rather than construction. She watched decisions drag on, clients get underrepresented, and set out to do the job differently.

In this episode, she explains how she builds a project team around each client, why contractors are among her biggest referral sources, and how she holds every party accountable, herself included.

We’re proud to share Linda’s story and to keep amplifying the women leading residential construction. Listen at the link in bio!

This house knows exactly where it came from and exactly who it's for.

In the heart of San Francisco's Mission District, House Social by began as a 19th-century Italian grocery that hosted ice cream socials for a community church, then took on a second life as an artist's studio and residence. By the time the current owners arrived, it was a wonderful, ramshackle, colorful mess, and it took a particular kind of client to see that as the starting point rather than the problem.

The directive: keep what made it extraordinary, fix everything that needed fixing, and build a home for a family that actually wants to be together.

Architects are adding a modern twist to the increasingly popular shingle-style design.

Homeowners are updating these century-old exteriors by paring back ornate moldings and columns in favor of bolder, more saturated color choices. In a recent feature on the shingle-style revival, Heidi Richardson of describes reimagining a 1913 Marin County home by swapping its original red trim for black, a change she says made the house more elegant. She also speaks to resilience, noting that fire-resistant underlayment is essential in at-risk regions like California.

200 acres of undeveloped Hudson Valley land held decades of memories for this family. When they came to AMA, the brief focused on the site: preserving stands of mature oaks, developing pastures for horses, and connecting architecturally with a landscape they already loved.

The house sits near the top of a hill yet reads as horizontal, pulling close to the ground. Pre-weathered Philippine mahogany and fieldstone salvaged from an upstate New York barn give the exterior its material logic, with forms that reference what was already there. Inside, an impressive sliding door system opens the living room to the rear terrace and the meadow beyond, while triple-pane windows keep the envelope tight on a windy part of the hill.

An empty nest prompted a couple in Mill Valley to search for a home for the next stage of their lives, a place where they can both relax and entertain friends and family.

worked with the homeowners to rethink the 1920s-era Fairfax property from the entry sequence out, raising the roofline to clarify the arrival, enlarging windows throughout, and opening the living room to a deck. When demolition revealed a hidden view of Mt. Tam behind an interior wall, they captured it with a new window above the fireplace.

A relocated pool, a 400 sf pool house/ADU, and a sauna complete the outdoor living program. Every exterior structure is painted in dark charcoal, a quiet move that keeps the built forms from competing with the watershed behind them.

Michael Hennessey of is featured in the August | September issue of .

Known as a minimalist, Hennessey's aims are far from minimal. As he puts it: "My hope is that it elicits an emotional response. That's the goal, which is very hard to get to, but I think every now and again, a project will reach the point of being magical. When people come into a space and gasp — that's what we're trying to get to."

Writer Laurel Delp profiles the firm's work and philosophy in the magazine's "Rendering" column.
