What an enjoyable opening reception last night of Natasha Landau and Dan Nistor’s exhibition Paintings and Drawings at RIVAA Gallery.
Together, Landau and Nistor offer two compelling ways of seeing: one unfolding through story, memory, and imagination, and the other emerging through a perceptual, intuitive, and responsive creative process.
The show runs through September 20th, 2026.

Two distinctive artistic worlds come together at RIVAA Gallery in Paintings and Drawings, featuring work by Roosevelt Island residents Natasha Landau (Natasha landau) and Dan Nistor (Dan Nistor).

Natasha Landau’s dreamlike, narrative works are shaped by memory, nature, literature, and her celebrated career in costume design for film and theater. Moving among landscape, portraiture, and fantasy, they invite viewers into scenes that feel at once intimate and theatrical.

Dan Nistor’s work is richly expressive—alive with vivid color, tactile surfaces, and energetic brushwork. Moving among portraits, figures, landscapes, animals, and still lifes, he responds intuitively as each image develops, refining every form and gesture in relation to the composition as a whole.

Together, Landau and Nistor offer two compelling ways of seeing: one unfolding through story, memory, and imagination, and the other emerging through a perceptual, intuitive, and responsive creative process.

RIVAA Gallery is pleased to present Paintings and Drawings, a two-person exhibition featuring Roosevelt Island artists Natasha Landau and Dan Nistor.

Distinctly different in their approaches, both create imaginative and visually compelling worlds.

Natasha Landau’s dreamlike, narrative works are shaped by memory, nature, literature, and her celebrated career in costume design for film and theater. Her paintings and drawings move among landscape, portraiture, and fantasy, inviting viewers into scenes that feel at once intimate and theatrical.

Dan Nistor creates richly expressive paintings alive with vivid color, tactile surfaces, and energetic brushwork. Moving among portraits, figures, landscapes, animals, and still lifes, he responds intuitively to each developing work, refining every form and gesture in relation to the composition as a whole.

Together, Landau and Nistor offer two compelling ways of seeing: one unfolding through story, memory, and imagination, and the other emerging through a perceptual, intuitive, and responsive creative process.

We hope to see you at the opening reception on Saturday, August 29, from 6–9 PM.

Katerina Kyselica: Mostly Blues
September 24 – October 18, 2026
Opening reception: Saturday, September 26, 5-8 pm 🥂
Artist-guided tour: Saturday, October 10, 3 pm 🎨

Mostly Blues brings together a selection of drawings, fine arts prints, paintings, artist’s books, and works from handmade paper created by Katerina Kyselica whose art embraces structure, chance, and subtle imperfection. The show features artworks that explore the inner state of one’s mind, revealing Kyselica’s playful approach to creating imagery and affinity for a written word.

Demonstrating Kyselica’s range of material experimentation, Mostly Blues presents mainly works on paper, the artist’s favorite material, including Twittering Machine – a series of large-scale drawings on the traditional Japanese Sekishu paper; and Tsunami – a series created by using the process of hand papermaking, done in collaboration with the organization Dieu Donné in Brooklyn.

“I really like the tactile quality of paper, whether I use it as a support in drawing or painting or as a structural material in book arts. I carefully choose the paper I use for each project, for there are so many varieties of textures to work with. I’m also drawn to the sound paper makes, both in drawing, where I enjoy it as I mark the paper, and in book arts where I use the acoustic quality of paper to create sensory experience for viewers as they explore my handmade books.”

Come and see Ana-Maria Daranga’s Ana-Maria Daranga solo exhibition, Wandering Through Watercolor, captures the light feeling of summer. Cool and warm, soft colors and inviting landscapes and cityscapes welcome viewers to wander through them.
The exhibition runs from July 28-August 16, 2026 at
RIVAA Gallery 527 Main Street, Roosevelt Island.

Ana-Maria Daranga is an artist working solely in watercolor and who is principally drawn to two main subjects: first, the distinct physical presence and evocative nature of individual buildings (or elements of them) taken as subjects in themselves.
Her second main subject, equally important and challenging to her is the richly colorful, ever changing natural world, which she presents vividly in landscapes, seascapes, floral displays and still life groupings that seek to capture the intensity of the living scene itself.

Trained in Architecture and the History of Art, Ana-Maria Daranga is a graduate of “Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture and Urban Design”, located in Bucharest, Romania. Photos by Georgette Sinclair and others.

Ana-Maria Daranga’s Ana-Maria Daranga solo exhibition captures the light feeling of summer. Cool or warm, soft colors and inviting land and cityscapes invite you to wander through them.

The exhibition runs from July 28-August 16, 2026 at RIVAA Gallery 527 Main Street, Roosevelt Island.

Join us for the opening reception on August 1, from 5-8 PM.

Ana-Maria Daranga is an artist working solely in watercolor and who is principally drawn to two main subjects: first, the distinct physical presence and evocative nature of individual buildings (or elements of them) taken as subjects in themselves. She presents these with expressive detail and full technical recognition of their architectural reality.

These buildings are often in one or another European style of architecture, ranging from historic castles, churches and homes to contemporary urban dwellings and rural structures.

Her second main subject, equally important and challenging to her is the richly colorful, ever changing natural world, which she presents vividly in landscapes, seascapes, floral displays and still life groupings that seek to capture the intensity of the living scene itself. Often, she combines elements of both these subjects in a single composition, bringing to it singularly evocative tones and effects.

Trained in Architecture and the History of Art, Ana-Maria Daranga is a graduate of “Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture and Urban Design”, located in Bucharest, Romania.

She has practiced as an architect both in Bucharest and New York City.
