Tomorrow is the last chance to visit “Paul Anthony Smith: Passage,” at the The Hyde Collection in Glen Falls, New York.

This presentation comprises a collection of Smith’s trademark large-scale picotage works which explore themes of colonialism, displacement, migration, and memory.

Featuring landscapes that the artist photographed in his travels to the Caribbean, each work is enhanced with Smith’s picotage technique which he refers to as “patterns of disguise”; the artist pierces thousands of holes in a photograph to create intricate, atmospheric veils which serve to both enhance and conceal the subject.

Plan your visit before it closes this weekend on 2 June.

“Ada gave him a complex human presence that I don’t think I had seen before in his work” — Sanford Schwartz, writer and author of "Alex Katz in Maine"

Wishing a very happy birthday to Ada Katz who was born on this day in the Bronx, New York!

Ada has played a pivotal role in her husband Alex Katz’s practice, acting as model, muse, and advisor. Since they met in 1957, Katz has painted hundreds of portraits of her in various roles and settings, chronicling their lives together in intimate detail.

Last chance to see “Alex Katz: Wedding Dress" at the Portland Art Museum before it closes on 2 June.

The exhibition presents works from the artist’s series of large-scale paintings of wedding dresses and offers unique insight into Katz’s exploration of figuration, texture, and style. Closely attuned to the New York fashion scene, Katz has drawn inspiration from style icons and designers throughout his career. With his characteristic pictorial flatness, he depicts the essence of his sitter’s style, capturing a moment in time.

“Martinez’s powerhouse paintings, which often include collage elements, have an eccentric, slapdash energy that echoes Robert Rauschenberg’s anything-goes 'combines' and Philip Guston’s cartoony figuration. They’re in constant motion, as is their maker.”—Dodie Kazanjian on

On the heels of Eddie Martinez’s upcoming presentation at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, Long Island, Dodie Kazanjian sits down with Martinez and his wife and artist Sam Moyer, ahead of their simultaneous solo shows at the museum.

Opening next month on 30 June, the artist will showcase a new body of “Bufly” paintings made specifically for the Parrish, taking advantage of the museum’s expansive space and high ceilings with seven 12-foot tall works.

Sean Landers's debut exhibition with the gallery, "Animal Portraits," opens Thursday 6 June, at Timothy Taylor in London featuring new paintings by the artist.

This presentation reflects on Landers's evolving relationship to the many dimensions of making art with each canvas mirroring a specific stage in his creative life. Landers paints wild animals in a style evoking traditional European painting techniques, combining them with diaristic texts that reveal the artist's sense of existential awareness: https://www.timothytaylor.com/exhibitions/236-sean-landers-animal-portraits/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dhfacebook&utm_content=app.dashhudson.com%2Ftimothy-taylor%2Flibrary%2Fmedia%2F413497641

The opening reception begins at 6pm with an artist talk at 6:30pm led by Ben Luke, critic and broadcaster for The Art Newspaper and the Evening Standard.

Chris Martin is featured in "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today," an exhibition opening this Saturday 25 May at KARST in Plymouth, England.

This group exhibition brings together four distinct painters who explore the formal and informal ways each makes sense of the world through their practice. Included are seven colourful paintings by Martin, each of which merges graphic figuration with painterly abstraction.

The exhibition’s title is taken from David Byrne and Brian Eno’s eponymous collaborative album and song and serves as a thematic anchor for this show: https://timothy-taylor.visitlink.me/boFx_m

“Reflecting on the history of the hypersexualisation of women in Western art, Longe first set out to explore the female n**e in a way that showed women in full, confident possession of their sexuality. But the spectre of something else-perhaps a pensiveness brought on by her surroundings-persisted.” — Ferren Gipson on Sahara Longe

Longe’s latest compositions draw from classical portraiture including Symbolist Ferdinand Hodler’s painting “Die Nacht” bringing disparate art historical sources and traditions into her singular aesthetic. These paintings further explore the ideas of Longe’s earliest work, which emerged from her study of classical portraiture, as she poses subtle questions about representation: who it serves, and what narratives it upholds.

Read art historian and writer Ferren Gipson’s essay on how Longe integrates and recontextualises themes and styles of old-master paintings in her practice. “Sugar” is on view through 15 June: https://www.timothytaylor.com/news/342-the-bitter-with-the-sweet-by-ferren-gipson/

"Tender Mountain," Hayal Pozanti's first solo gallery exhibition at Timothy Taylor in London, is now on view.

In her new landscape paintings, Pozanti captures the world as she encounters it. Using bright, vigorous marks, (all painted by hand) the artist connects with the surface and subject matter in a more intimate way, forming a physical relationship to the canvas that allows her to interpret the world through her mind and body: https://timothy-taylor.visitlink.me/PXlUOA

Last chance to see Jonathan Lasker’s retrospective at the Museum of Recent Art () in Bucharest, Romania, which closes 11 May. “Paintings from Five Decades” features key works from Lasker’s career which highlight the evolution of his analytical approach to abstraction.

Combining traditional artistic means with experimental ideas of abstraction, Lasker uses repeating motifs and forms throughout his work, which he rearranges in compositions using a logic he has described as a “jigsaw puzzle” approach.

Don’t miss: “Present Tense,” a group exhibition featuring Antonia Showering, on view at Hauser & Wirth Somerset through this weekend, 28 April, in Somerset, England.

“Present Tense” features 23 contemporary artists who are living and working in the UK and testing the boundaries of their mediums to address and confront notions of identity, consciousness, humanity, and representation.

Showering’s work provokes memories of past antecedents in the history of art, in this case Surrealism, in her dreamlike subject matter that moves fluidly between abstraction and figuration.

“Hayal Pozanti: Tender Mountain” opens today in London. Join us for the opening reception tonight, Thursday 25 April from 6–8pm.

This exhibition is the debut of Hayal Pozanti’s new landscape paintings, the latest in the series that inaugurated our New York gallery last year. These works depict subjects that the artist closely observes in the environment and then sketches en plein air. She translates these impressions to the canvas by blending her medium of sustainable oil sticks with her fingers, taking a tactile, almost sculptural approach to pigment application.

“Tender Mountain” will mark the artist’s first solo exhibition in the UK and her second with the gallery: https://www.timothytaylor.com/exhibitions/235-hayal-pozanti-tender-mountain/

🎈Today we wish Eddie Martinez a very happy birthday! The artist was born on this day, 18 April, in Groton, Connecticut.

Martinez is the subject of two solo exhibitions this month: "Nomader" opening this Saturday 20 April at La Biennale di Venezia, representing San Marino, and "To Be Continued" at SPACE K, closing 15 June. Next month, the artist will present a new body of work at the Parrish Art Museum in the Hamptons, showcasing seven 12-foot tall "Bufly" paintings.

Each of these presentations explores how the artist continues to incorporate figuration and abstraction in his paintings and drawings, foregrounding his signature brushwork.

“My work is not tied to a school or genre: it is a kind of superabundance of thoughts and ideas that sometimes clarifies itself.”—Eddie Martinez
