MINIMAL | MAXIMAL
The Principle of Convergence

Curated by Priska Juschka

OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, JUNE 27 | 5 – 8 PM

Exhibition Dates: June 27 – July 27, 2024

Press Release:
Opening Reception for MINIMAL | MAXIMAL– The Principle of Convergence – the second OPEN CALL format at the gallery, and curated by Lichtundfire’s gallery director Priska Juschka as part of LICHTUNDFIREcuratorial.

The exhibition seeks to widen the concept of carefully curated group exhibition by featuring visual relationships on a numerically larger scale with work in various media, painting, photography, sculpture, works on paper, and mixed media that echo, when exhibited together– the idea of the convergence of often viewed as polarized extremes.

This exhibition inspired by the philosophical observations and deductions by French mathematician, philosopher and pioneering social scientist Blaise Pascal brings together a large number of work with manifold techniques and artistic practices, reaching from Minimalism to Abstract Expressionism to abstracted, conceptual Figuration, and from small to larger formats.

Pascal’s Principle of Convergence or in his words, Les Extrêmes Se Touchent (The Extremes Touch), is an observation that all extremes, originating from different poles, in the end, reach each other as they become a totality. (..)

A Solo Exhibition conceived and curated by Elga Wimmer

Jacques Dominique Joachim, aka Jacdo, born 1965 in the French diaspora Martinique, lives and works in Le Mans, France.

This new body of work, his first show in New York, reflects Jacdo’s ongoing search for identity. A French citizen, but with origins in the Caribbean island of Martinique, the artist hails from a mix of immigrants from Africa/Creole to European, Arab, Indian and Chinese.(..)

With Vian Borchert, Sandra Gottlieb, Leah Oates, Joyce Pommer, Gregory Reid, Alexandra Rozenman, Robert Solomon, Philip Verhoeven and Martin Weinstein.

Concept by Priska Juschka

Exhibition Dates: APRIL 4 — APRIL 27, 2024

Press Release:

The Magical Garden brings together work in various media, painting, photography, and works on paper, that describes and comments on a sensation of natural wonder and bliss while simultaneously going under the surface— when innocence is lost, and when The Magical Garden turns from a children’s story to adult fiction.

The search for truth and reason, love and enlightenment, nascent, and yet semi-dormant, in children follows us into adulthood and throughout our lives.

The Magical Garden stands for both the place and idea of a fledgeling, youthful and prospering humanity where and when nature’s harmony is still aligned with our own budding interests and ideas about the world as we perceive it and grow into. The enchantment of a nature preserve that still entails all the wonders of life — while devoid of the darkest aspects of humanity — is a reminder of humanity’s possibilities. (..)
