Summer!
It’s full blown summer, yay! Time for a little diversion. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and Jackie, too!!
NYC spoils one with magnificent parks. We found two new attractions in Hudson River Park in Manhattan, New York - the “Choo Choo” train ( love trains, and you?), and the “Heads”. The Geese were enjoying too, flocking around humans. Beautiful!!!
How’s your summer going? Are you enjoying or making plans to? Remember, life’s for the living.
Have fun. Enjoy. Stay well.
Be sure to check out all the pictures. Enjoy 😉.

Mfumbe Cameroon Bronze Sculpture. Appr. 9” X 4” X3”.
An expressionistic bronze figure embodying ancestral and spiritual presence. The intentionally elongated anatomy reflects the Grassfield’s tradition of depicting metaphysical power rather than naturalistic form.

Elegant bronze figure portrayed in a contemplative seated posture, the elongated neck, attenuated limbs, and abstracted facial features, intentionally departing from naturalism to evoke a being that inhabits the spiritual realm. Rather than depicting physical likeness, the sculptor emphasized metaphysical presence, transforming the human form into a visual expression of ancestral wisdom and supernatural authority.
Within the artistic traditions of the Cameroon Grassfields, sculptures of this character were associated with ritual life, where figures served as conduits between the visible and invisible worlds. They embodied ancestral spirits, protective forces, or supernatural intermediaries, consulted during ceremonies, divination, and communal rites. Their expressive distortions were deliberate, communicating spiritual potency rather than anatomical realism.
The figure’s quiet introspective pose contrasts beautifully with its commanding presence. Broad stylized facial planes, a gracefully elongated neck, and carefully balanced proportions create an object that is simultaneously serene and powerful. The rich naturally aged patina further enhances its sculptural depth, revealing years of handling and atmospheric aging.
Today, works of this quality are appreciated both as important examples of African sculptural innovation and as sophisticated expressions of abstraction that anticipated many principles later embraced by 20th century artists 🧑‍🎨.
An exceptional example of Cameroon bronze casting, combining spiritual symbolism with remarkable sculptural refinement.

Mfumbe Cameroon Bronze Sculpture
Appr. 9” X 4” X 3”
Not every important African object was monumental.
In Western eyes, the Mfumbe bronze sculpture may appear to be small, but its original owners likely saw something entirely different. Across many African societies, importance was never measured by physical size. An object’s power came from what it represented - ancestral memory, lineage, wisdom, protection, and continuity between generations.
A carefully crafted bronze object such as this could embody centuries of cultural knowledge. Its quiet posture invites reflection. Its elongated proportions speak with remarkable restraint. Its surface records the touch of time.
The greatest African works rarely demanded attention. They earned it.

Mfumbe Cameroon Bronze Sculpture, cont.
Appr. 9” X 4” X 3”
Some collections become larger, others become deeper. The difference is discernment.
The Mfumbe bronze sculpture does not shout across the room, it quietly changes it. Collectors eventually discover that the finest African sculptures possess an unusual quality - they continue revealing themselves long after the acquisition.
One glance becomes many. One conversation becomes years of admiration. Some works decorate, but others become part of a family’s story. This is one of those works that belongs in the home of somebody who has spent a lifetime becoming interesting.
