It is , today we chose “Shabbos Shabbos I Love You” –A repetitive Rhyming book that will remind children of what they love about Shabbos. Written by Naomi Lieberman, and Illustrated by Avram Zmora. Read and rhyme the title of the book “Shabbos Shabbos I Love You”, to the many special activities that happen on Shabbos. At the end of the story, the rhyme will bring the longing of Shabbos for the coming week. Once finished reading the book, discuss with your child their favorite part of Shabbos.

The Hebrew letter Vov 'ו, which is actually today's Hebrew date, Vov 'ו Teves (the 6th of Teves), is the 6th letter of the Hebrew Alef Bet. When studying the Epistle, the Vov 'ו looks like an elongated Yud 'י . The letter Yud 'י represents G-d and his infinite wisdom, and the Vov 'ו represents the 6 emotional attributes related to each person’s personality. To create a diverse yet harmonious world, each character translates wisdom in different ways, and brings it down to this earth, just like the Vov 'ו pulling down the rest of the Yud 'י.

Chanukah is centered on the miracle of oil, shining a light on the true essence of Judaism, and the Torah. The Greeks wanted to rid the Jews of a life lived with G-d and the Torah. They wanted the Jews to live solely on manmade philosophy. The Greeks couldn’t understand why the Jewish people would crush the first drop of oil for the Holy Temple. In defiance, they gave their own oil to be used, which is deemed not kosher, and destroyed the Kosher oil. Oil’s quality is that it can fuel a fire and brighten a dark place. Today, Chanukah is celebrated with oil which also reminds us to elevate food with the smallest drop and bring out the most beautiful essence of a Jew - the inner glow of the Torah.

Being healthy is very important and many try to achieve this through eating healthy, having a good night’s sleep, exercising, and playing with friends. Comes along ones Yetzer Hora (evil inclination) who says, in order to be happy, one must indulge in this world just for pleasures sake. There are many ways to overcome such pressure. 1: Through trickery - show the Yetzer Hora that one is enjoying the materialistic world, yet not for pleasures sake, but to elevate this world. 2: Be in charge - be proud, stand firm in your decision, and don't bend by other influences. In Parshas Vayishlach, Yaakov is given a new name Yisroel. When it comes to the Jewish Forefathers, their names are a lesson for all times. The name Yaakov, stems from the word trickery, this gives the power to do right, with different intentions. The name Yisroel, comes from the word s’rorah- to be in charge, one does not have to use trickery to decide the right thing to do.

As Yaakov ran away from Eisav his brother, Yaakov got ready to go to sleep. He took stones and covered his head to protect himself from wild animals. How can stones, an inanimate object, protect someone from an animal that can easily climb over the stone? Yaakov was tapping into the energy of stones which represent strength and power, to fortify such a foundation. With this foundation, Yaakov was able to build a family with his beliefs, and was able to withstand his journeys in life, even the dark place of Charan.

As Yitzchok Avinu grew older, at the age of 123, he started contemplating whether he is worthy of G-d’s blessings. Yitzchok, one of the Jewish Nation’s Forefathers, was a holy person. Why would he be concerned about his worthiness? There is a concept that one should take into accountability their past deeds as well as their future, 5 years before the age their parents have passed. Yitzchok reached that stage, and therefore took on himself an accounting of his soul. Taking upon himself a stricter outlook. When it came to others he was lenient and generous. Learn from Yitzchok, when it comes to self-introspection, one can be strict and grow on their own, to others be kind and lenient each person is on their own journey.

It is , today we chose “Way Too Much Challah Dough” – which has a Storytelling Worlds Honors Award, written by Goldie Shulman, and Illustrated by Vitaliy Romanenko. Join along with Mindy, as she comically tries to follow directions to create her Bubby's Challah recipe. The thrill of watching the Challah dough overflow will create a memorable book, that will be highly requested. This book connects well with this weeks Torah Portion Chayei Sara, where we read about the everlasting fresh challah that returns when Rivkah Immeinu gets married to Yitzchak. This miracle occurred during the days of Sarah Immeinu, and was a sign to Avraham Avinu that Rivkah was the right partner for his son Yitzchok.

This week’s talks about and his escape from the city of Sedom. G-d sent to rescue Lot and his family from Sedom before it was destroyed. Tonight will be the 11th of Cheshvan, the yahrzeit of Rochel Imeinu, whom was buried on the roadside. (Today there is a beautiful monument that was built in 1840’s by Moses Montefiore.) At first glance, it seems strange that Rochel, one of the Jewish Nations matriarchs, is not buried together with the rest of the forefathers in Meoras Hamachpeila. However, Rochel, known as Mame Rochel, is the epitome of a mother putting aside herself for the sake of others. Rochel foresaw her children, the Jewish Nation, being sent to exile, and knew someone has to be there for them through the hard times. Her reward, her children will return from exile. May we merit the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days, where we will have Rochel leading the way.

This weeks Torah Portion Parshas Noach, and the 5th letter in the Hebrew Alef-Bet Hey -"ה" are connected in many ways. One main theme running through is their connection to words. The Hebrew word Teivah/Ark translates to "word", and the letter Hey -"ה", when pronounced does not sound out noise, rather it creates a breathe out sound. In order to create words, one needs breath and when your breath stops, so do the words. The Torah says, G-d created and continues to create the world through speech, aka words, giving a continued life force to this world. People were given the gift of words, to continue the worlds unbroken greatness through spreading words of goodwill.

Tishrei, the Jewish month that is chock-full of Holidays, with easy access to inspiration, holiness, and unity, is coming to a close. As we wave goodbye to the month, and enter back into routine, remember this expression “Yaakov went on his way.” Just like Yaakov, the forefather of the Jewish Nation, packed his bags of inspiration when he left his father’s home, remember to pack some bags of inspiration. Make this year’s journey, a motivational year, and mimic the inspiration received from the Jewish Month of Tishrei.

In celebration of Hanukkah and the 15th anniversary of this moving project, we're reflecting on our collaboration with Gwathmey Siegel Architects to develop the identity and a range of environmental communications elements for the world’s first Jewish Children's Museum
The communications elements reflect a mosaic of Judaism celebrating Jewish history, life, culture in the context of today’s world. Elements include a thirty-foot sculpture of a dreidel, and a dramatic photo mosaic mural.
We're honored and grateful for the opportunity to work with Gwathmey Siegel Architects.
