Gallery owner Jim Clark aboard the M/V Cape Race at Upernavik Fjord, Greenland. The contract with Nasa’s Oceans Melting Greenland(OMG) measured changing water temperatures and salinity and how marine glaciers reacted to the presence of warm, salty water melting the glaciers below the sea level.

Mostly in uncharted waters a multibeam echosounder was attached to the hull for mapping the ocean floor and collecting data that was fundamental to new observations and insights into the sea floor geometry. This aided in providing a revolutionary data set which is being used to understand Greenland’s ice loss, model ocean/ice interactions, and improve estimates of global sea level rise.

Some nice artwork acquired as well.

Abraham Anghik Ruben
Brazilian Soapstone, 27 x 17 x 13 in

Look North Gallery now representing world renowned Inuvialuit sculptor Abraham Anghik Ruben exclusively in the United States.

Abraham has always thought of himself as part of the world of contemporary sculptors and has had to break down many of the subtle barriers that constrain the Inuit artist. He has proven that an Inuit can root himself in the south without losing his cultural Identity. Abraham's solo show, Arctic Journeys/Ancient Memories, at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. drew over 500,000 visitors.
