As part of our and series, we are pleased to present ๐™Š๐™ฎ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง ๐™‹๐™ž๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ค ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ง, a public program with Season II, 2026 AiR Rowan van As (), organized by NARS Curatorial Fellow Vu Thien An (Thea) Nguyen (). ๐Ÿฆช

The performance will take place in parallel with the NARS Spring Open Studios, taking place on June 5 & 6.

Beginning at the NARS Foundation, Rowan van As activates ๐˜–๐˜บ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜—๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ ๐˜‰๐˜ข๐˜ณ through a collective walk toward 36th Street subway station. Constructed from wood, wire, tape, found materials, oysters, and a keyboard piano, the mobile structure exists somewhere between a moving oyster bar, a street sculpture, and a temporary stage.

The work unfolds through spontaneous encounters, conversations, sounds, oyster sharing, and shifting interactions with the surrounding urban environment. Visitors are invited to join the procession as the ๐˜–๐˜บ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜—๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ ๐˜‰๐˜ข๐˜ณ moves from the street, into the elevator, and toward the fourth-floor studio spaces, temporarily transforming ordinary moments of transit into a shared performative experience.

Fragments of the project also appear throughout the exhibition in the form of a sculptural video installation documenting the ๐˜–๐˜บ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜—๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ ๐˜‰๐˜ข๐˜ณโ€™s evolving presence within the city.

๐ŸŽฅ As part of our and series, we are pleased to present a screening of works by artists-in-residence Erika Choe () and Colby Lamson-Gordon (), organized by NARS Curatorial Fellow Vu Thien An (Thea) Nguyen ().

The screening will take place in parallel with the NARS Spring Open Studios, taking place on June 5 & 6.

Erika Choeโ€™s ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฃ explores mothering, birth, rebirth, and loss through a video-based performance that examines permeability, vulnerability, and bodily transformation. Through the slathering of clay across the skin, Choe approaches material as both armor and cleansing, navigating the unstable boundary between protection and exposure. The work confronts viewers with questions of endurance and abjection, using mothering as a vessel through which soma, memory, and psycho trauma become entangled.

Colby Lamson-Gordonโ€™s ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ข ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ ๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ ๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ, and ๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด ๐˜ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ navigate adoption, emotional distance, and the search for familial connection through archival footage, digital mapping, and personal narration. Across both works, memory and geography become unstable terrains shaped by longing, displacement, and imagined reunion.

The screening will be followed by a conversation moderated by Hebin Rachel Shin (.hrs), Creative Manager at gmtc-golden monkey trading company.

Emphasizing proximity and collective presence, Our Oily and Lush Vitality imagines connectivity and community as a kind of gravitational power, a force that binds bodies, objects, and social relations together through moments of gathering and exchange.
