Laura Partin - Visual artist Visual artist based in Bucharest, Romania. Laura Partin was born in Iasi, Romania, in 1986. In 2021 she obtained a PhD in Fine Arts at the Paris 8 University.

This is where she studied fine arts and art theory, at the George Enescu University. Between 2012 and 2014 she was a fellow in Fine Arts at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Venice. In her works she explores several drawing techniques such as pen on paper, watercolor and India ink on canvas, as well as performance (sometimes participatory), installation or video art. Over the years she has tackled subjects such as gender stereotypes, the condition of migrant workers, as well as concepts from social psychology such as cognitive dissonance or terror management theory. Her most recent project, Sfratto/Eviction, exhibited in Rome in 2020, included a series of drawings and a video about the eviction of Roma families from their homes in Romania between 2010 and 2018. Currently, in the context of the pandemic, she became interested in the multimedia/performative potential of contemporary feminist poetry and in the time spent in nature as a form of introspective healing.

The El Segundo blue butterfly from Southern California was listed as endangered in 1976, and threats to the species include urban development and invasion by exotic species, which have resulted in a significant loss and modification of its habitat. This drawing is a part of a larger body of work about the decline in aquatic and coastal biodiversity.

Sâmbăta aceasta la open studios la Atelierele din Baicului am povestit cu voi despre lucrările noastre și m-am bucurat să văd că mulți oameni încă descoperă mica noastră comunitate de artişti. The Camenae are a group of prophetic water Goddesses or nymphs of ancient Rome, considered Goddesses of poetry as well as birth Goddesses who presided over springs and were invoked for healing. Their name is related to the Latin word carmen, meaning "charm, song, poem, magical formula, or prayer".

Atelierele din Baicului invită publicul bucureștean la cea de-a treia ediție a evenimentului Open Studios, care va avea loc sâmbătă, 10 octombrie 2026. Evenimentul va avea loc între orele 16:00 și 21:00, în clădirea fabricii Dr. Kocher, București (Google Maps: Atelierele din Baicului). Intrarea în curte se face din Strada Sergent Nicolae Culea, apoi prima la dreapta.
Atelierele din Baicului - Open Studios marchează nouă o etapă importantă în coagularea comunității artistice independente reunite în Atelierele din Baicului, consolidând legăturile dintre artiști și publicul larg. Vizitatorii vor putea intra în atelierele artiștilor și descoperi lucrări de desen, sculptură, pictură și ceramică în lucru și participa la întâlniri informale și tururi ghidate.

Nereus is best known as the gentle primordial sea god of Greek mythology, often called the "Old Man of the Sea." In this body of work, I reinterpret mythological figures from different traditions through a contemporary environmental lens, using ancient archetypes to reflect today's ecological realities. Today, it is impossible to speak about the sea without acknowledging the dramatic decline in marine biodiversity. For this reason, I chose to depict Nereus with the tail of a vaquita (Phocoena sinus), the world's rarest and most endangered marine mammal. Endemic to the northern Gulf of California, the vaquita has suffered a catastrophic population collapse due primarily to accidental entanglement in illegal gillnets. Fewer than ten individuals are believed to remain in the wild, representing a decline of more than 99% since the late 1990s.

The vaquita is the most endangered cetacean in the world. With as few as around 10 left, the species will become extinct without a fully enforced gillnet ban throughout their entire habitat. Mar Adentro explores, through contemporary drawing techniques, the climate crisis and the fragile disappearance of aquatic biodiversity. This body of work unfolds as a visual meditation on the ecological transformations of the marine world, adopting a poetic and melancholic aesthetic. The works trace an imaginary cartography of an ever-changing landscape, a liquid and unstable universe where the boundaries between myth and reality blur, and the visible and invisible meet in a continuous flow.

The vaquita, considered the world’s most endangered marine mammal, is facing imminent extinction. With only approximately 10 individuals left in the wild in Mexico, its rapid population decline serves as a stark example of the growing threats confronting cetaceans, including whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Mar Adentro explores, through contemporary drawing techniques, the climate crisis and the fragile disappearance of aquatic biodiversity. This body of work unfolds as a visual meditation on the ecological transformations of the marine world, adopting a poetic and melancholic aesthetic. The works trace an imaginary cartography of an ever-changing landscape, a liquid and unstable universe where the boundaries between myth and reality blur, and the visible and invisible meet in a continuous flow.
