Some thoughts and experiences from the past seven years working with veterans. It has truly become one of the most rewarding aspects of my life.
Throughout this journey, I have learned so much from my friends who have faced extreme trauma while serving our country. Their resilience, loyalty, and kindness inspire me daily. Not to mention their incredible creativity—they could easily kick our asses, and I love them for it! And yet, they are kind, tender and so much fun to hang out with, cause they’re REAL and have nothing to hide.
I feel privileged to spend time with them, sharing my gifts and inviting them to explore new ways to express their truths through the arts. It’s hard to believe that 30 years ago, if someone had told me I’d be using my art skills to help veterans tell their stories, I would have thought they were insane!
At 57, I am incredibly proud to be an artist, even prouder to apply my talents in ways that support and uplift the veterans I work with.
JOIN US this Wednesday evening, May 27th as the latest CreatiVets cohort of Veterans in partnership Belmont University share their life experiences through the visual arts. You will leave inspired to live a better life! I promise you.
