What a fantastic night for New Jersey photography! We celebrated the Member reception for “Garden State Lens” with 11 NJ photographers, food and drink, a conversation with the curator, and more! The exhibition opens to the public tomorrow, Friday, October 16th.

In this major exhibition, candid photography—unscripted, unposed images taken from everyday life—by eleven contemporary artists explore the lives lived in the nation’s most densely populated and ethnically diverse state. “Garden State Lens” presents scenes of New Jerseans going about their everyday lives. We see them raise their families, earn a living, come together as a community, and enjoy the state’s great outdoors.

Featuring artists Ben MacMaster, Christy Warren, Cynthia Egle, Dorie Dahlberg, Edward Fausty, Erik James Montgomery, Frank Hanavan, Jean Paul Picard, Joya Angola Thompson, Sean Burns, and Tolu Olasoji.

Two days until “Garden State Lens” opens on Friday, October 16th. Today we’re spotlighting self-taught photographer Sean Burns, who is newly based in Brooklyn after spending the prior 25 years in Bayonne, NJ. He specializes in abstract works, with an eye toward creating painterly photographs. Of late, he has been working on the art of street photography and is immersing himself in the challenges it offers.

In this major exhibition, candid photography—unscripted, unposed images taken from everyday life—by eleven contemporary artists explore the lives lived in the nation’s most densely populated and ethnically diverse state. “Garden State Lens” presents scenes of New Jerseans going about their everyday lives. We see them raise their families, earn a living, come together as a community, and enjoy the state’s great outdoors.

As Halloween approaches, the acclaimed early music ensemble the Sebastians explore the darker side of the Baroque. From Bach’s dramatic D minor Toccata and Fugue and Tartini’s legendary Devil’s Trill Sonata to musical portraits, storms, ghosts, and follies, this program uncovers the strange and theatrical imagination of the eighteenth century. Performed on period instruments, these works reveal a world where virtuosity, mystery, and storytelling meet.

One of only three surviving instruments by Bernhard Dufner, and possibly the first of what came to be called an Orchestrion. It has over 120 organ pipes, including 12 brass trumpets, plus 58 keys, and weighs more than 400 pounds.
