James McNeill Whistler was a bold, witty disruptor who rewrote the rules of Victorian art, earning admiration from Van Gogh and Manet along the way. This new film, timed to Tate Britain's first Whistler retrospective in three decades, unites world famous masterpieces with rarely seen works to reveal the artist behind Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1, better known as Whistler's Mother.

Is there such a thing as an American Sound?

In the 1920s and 30s, composers, critics, and audiences argued about it in concert halls, newspapers, ads, and film, and the debate shaped some of the most iconic music this country ever produced. Join us for the first Breakfast University on Tuesday, October 13th, where Professor Celenza dives into Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Ellington's Symphony in Black, tracing the blues, spirituals, Klezmer, Tin Pan Alley, Ragtime, and opera that shaped them.

Breakfast University is a new lecture series dedicated to arts and culture. It is part of a growing, nationwide program that pairs the country’s most remarkable professors with leading museums and cultural institutions — has been custom designed specifically for the Morris Museum and promises highly engaging presentations that explore the themes and ideas at the heart of what the Museum does.

Only one week left to register for our annual Golf Outing on September 28, 2026, at Spring Brook Country Club in Morristown, NJ. Spots are filling fast, so don't wait to secure yours.

Spring Brook has been newly renovated and the course is playing better than ever, so come enjoy good company and friendly competition. The day includes lunch in the clubhouse, a fun putting contest, eighteen holes on the course, and cocktails and dinner to finish the night in style.

This week’s Mechanical Monday packs a party into a single cabinet. This hand-cranked Barrel Organ from Germany’s Black Forest set more than a dozen dancing figures in motion, all in sync with its music. Made between 1820 and 1840, it’s proof that mechanical entertainment has always had a flair for the dramatic.
