Madison Historical Society

Madison Historical Society Founded in 1917, the Madison Historical Society is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that preserves and protects objects on behalf of the town's residents.

Our administrative offices, located on the upper level of the Lee Academy at 14 Meeting House Lane, can be reached year-round. The regular office hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. First Floor Exhibit is open Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. April through November.

Join us for History Happy Hour presented by Charlie Shafer on Friday, September 25 at the historic Allis-Bushnell House Museum. "Murder Mystery" will explore two notorious local murder cases from the 1800s. Discover the details of the infamous Mary Stannard case along with the lesser-known Collier murder.

The suggested donation for History Happy Hour is $15 for general admittance and $10 for MHS members. Seating is limited, and advance registration is requested.

Refreshments will be served. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Tickets are available at madisonhistory.org/events

Madisonians gathered in the garden of Mrs. George Wilcox on Island Avenue for an outdoor performance of Pie for Peacocks. Admission was just $1!

A special thank you to Larry Ciotti for sharing the history of football in Madison to a sold-out crowd on Friday evening! Guests enjoyed stories spanning the organization’s beginnings through its ultimate success, bringing Madison’s football history to life.

You can learn more about Larry and the team at the Allis-Bushnell House Museum on the first and third Saturdays of each month during the museum’s open houses. Larry is featured as a notable Madison figure in the exhibit "A Town Named Madison: Celebrating 200 Years."

Join us for a guided walking tour of Madison's historic downtown this Saturday, August 15 at 11 am.

Discover the people, places, and events that shaped this charming coastal town. Tours begin at the Allis-Bushnell House, located at 853 Boston Post Road. Tickets are available for purchase at member, nonmember, and student levels. Each tour will be
capped at 10 individuals.
