Guilford Keeping Society The Guilford Keeping Society collects, preserves, and shares its history and heritage of Guilford, CT. for present and future generations.

The Guilford Keeping Society is a non-profit historical society dedicated to preserving the history of Guilford. Besides the 1764 Thomas Griswold House Museum and the 1803 Medad Stone Tavern, the Society maintains an early blacksmith shop, a large barn filled with farm implements, two corn cribs and a Victorian three seat privy or outhouse, situated on the grounds of the museum on Boston Street, i

n Guilford, Connecticut. Along with the buildings, we maintain an extensive collection of Guilford historic photographs, journals or daybooks and other memorabilia mostly housed in the "Guilford Room" of the Guilford Free Library and available for use by the public for research or browsing.

"A Sแดแด€สŸสŸ Tแดแดกษด ษชษด แด€ Bษชษข Wแด€ส€" explores how the people of Guilfordโ€”and Madison, then known as East Guilfordโ€”experienced everyday life during one of the most pivotal events in American history.
Rather than focusing on distant battlefields and major campaigns, this exhibit brings the Revolution home. Through original documents, artifacts, and the stories of local residents, visitors will discover how ordinary families navigated shortages, military service, coastal threats, divided loyalties, and the daily uncertainties of wartime.

In Guilford, the Revolution was not a faraway conflictโ€”it was part of everyday life. Local men and women contributed through vigilance, sacrifice, and perseverance, shaping their community's role in the struggle for independence.

Whether you are interested in local history, genealogy, or the broader story of the American Revolution, A Small Town in a Big War offers a compelling look at how a small Connecticut community experienced extraordinary times.
