Golden light drifts across the meadow while cool blues and violets gather among the thistles below. Notice how the eye moves from deep shadow into radiant fields of gold. Layers of color create a beautiful sense of vibration and light as the light changes.

David Dunlop isn’t interested in painting every stem and flower with photographic precision. Like memory itself, he gives us just enough information for the mind to recognize what we’re seeing. Influenced by neuroscience and perception, he intentionally leaves room for the brain to complete the image, creating a more immersive and personal experience.

Look closely at the distant trees. Layers of blue, violet, green, and orange create a remarkable vibration of color and light. Through atmosphere, light, and suggestion, Dunlop evokes not just a landscape, but the sensation of being there.

David’s exhibition runs through July 5. Images can convey the scene, but only seeing these paintings in person allows you to experience the subtle interactions of light, color, and atmosphere that make them feel so alive.

The energy of Grand Central comes alive in David Dunlop’s Grand Central Silhouettes. Beneath the soaring architecture and vaulted windows of this iconic landmark, Dunlop captures the beauty and endless rhythm of people coming and going. Refractions of light streaming through the windows and shimmering across the marble floor, animate the scene, creating a luminous atmosphere. Layers of translucent colors interacting with the reflective brushed gold aluminum surface beneath give the painting a remarkable sense of vibrating light and color.

This Saturday June 13th from 2-3 PM, you are all invited to a painting demonstration by David Dunlop. This live demonstration will take place behind the gallery in the garden. Please bring small lawn chairs as we don’t have enough seating fo accomodate everyone.

Thank you David, for a wonderful opening and for being so generous with your time and insights throughout the evening. Your 40 beautiful new paintings bring light, color, and excitement to the gallery, and the exhibition continues through July 5.

David Dunlop’s “Shimmer Across the Water,” oil, 32x 32 inches, is alive with shimmering light and luminous color. Layers of translucent colors, interacting with the reflective gold surface beneath, and expressive, painterly brushwork create a remarkable sense of depth, light, and vibration. Much as we see through water while simultaneously perceiving reflections on its surface, we experience both the depth created by the translucent layers interacting with the reflective gold surface and the shimmer of reflected light at the same time. The varied hues of the richly colored shells in deep blues, soft greens, warm golds and pale violets, along with subtle shifts in color and value, enhance the illusion of depth and translucence. The entire painting shimmers with shifting light and color creating a remarkable sense of life and movement.

David Dunlop will be featured as a solo artist in our upcoming exhibition, Light and Vibration, opening June 5th. The opening reception will take place from 5–8 PM, and we invite you to join us and meet the artist. Golden light drifts through the landscape as the winding stream reflects deep blues, rich greens, and soft golden passages of light across the water. Painted on brushed gold laminated aluminum, the luminous ground layered with successive translucent glazes creates a remarkable vibration of color and light, allowing the entire painting to shimmer with warmth and luminosity. Loose, layered brushwork gives the grasses and trees rich texture and a flowing sense of movement, while subtle shifts between cool and warm tones create atmospheric harmony throughout the scene. Luminous clouds drift across the deep blue early summer sky as they billow upward with remarkable volume and movement. Below, fields of soft grasses and delicate white flowers stretch across the landscape, creating a peaceful rhythm of light and texture beneath the expansive sky above. Varied tones of greens and warm oranges weave through the trees and distant hills, leading the eye naturally toward the hazy mountains beyond.
