Take a walk through Susan Powell Fine Art and you never know what will catch your eye.

This is the final weekend of New England in Light, on view through Saturday, August 15. If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, there are just two days left to visit.

And while one exhibition comes to a close, another is about to begin. 8 Takes on Realism opens with a reception Friday, August 21, from 5 to 8 pm, and continues through September 26. New artist announcement: introducing John Rufo

We are excited to introduce John Rufo, a new artist to Susan Powell Fine Art.

John has a true passion for painting. As an architect, he brings a distinctive architectural eye to the way he sees and interprets the world. His paintings reveal a remarkable sense of design, with simplified shapes, carefully balanced compositions, and an underlying drawing that gives his boats and landscapes convincing sense of structure and form.

John builds his paintings through layers of color, allowing the underlying colors to show through. This process creates depth and a remarkable sense of light, giving each painting a surface that feels luminous and alive.

Whether working on a canvas or panel, or designing a building, John is ultimately exploring the same question: how do you translate the three-dimensional world into a two-dimensional painting that allows others not only to see it, but to experience it?

There is something unforgettable about arriving at your favorite beach just as the sun begins to set. The last light stretches across the water, scattering brilliant white reflections that dance over the gentle waves and fill the shoreline with warmth.

Painted with expressive, impressionistic brushwork, every stroke captures the atmosphere of the moment. Sunlight grazes the dune grasses, turning their green blades into glowing gold where the light falls, while soft shadows reveal the delicate contours of the sand. The luminous sky echoes across the water, creating a quiet harmony that invites you to pause, breathe, and stay a little longer.
