ArtNews released their 2026 list of the 100 Best Artworks About America, and the Lucas Museum is proud to count four of the entries among our holdings. Judith F. Baca’s mural “The Great Wall of Los Angeles,” the photograph “Migrant Mother” lensed by Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks’ 1956 portrait “Department Store, Mobile, Alabama,” and Robert Colescott’s “George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware: Page from an American History Textbook” are just some of the incredible visual stories that illustrate the myths that make America.

Other pieces featured in this list include artists whose works we’re proud to house in our exhibition: Norman Rockwell, Ernie Barnes, Jacob Lawrence, Kerry James Marshall, and Diego Rivera.

Our co-founder Mellody Hobson has been selected as one of Fortune’s 100 Most Powerful Women in Business 2026. Her career is a masterclass in leadership, starting as an intern at Ariel Investments in 1991 and working her way to their co-CEO today. She continues to shape industries and institutions alike, and her work has been essential to the creation of the Lucas Museum.
