We recently gathered our grantees at the Old Town Cultural Center to celebrate them and to learn about their projects. Congratulations to everyone who received 2026 funding in the following grant programs: City of Lansing Mini Pocket and Art Project, Young Creatives, Artists in the Community, Chris Clark Fellowship, and Ingham County Hotel Motel. Thanks to everyone who joined us and to our gracious hosts, Ben Hassenger and Rhea VanAtta.

The Arts Council sends it thoughts and condolences to the staff at Potter Park Zoo, and to the residents of Greater Lansing who are mourning the loss of Kota. Potter Park is an important cultural organization in our community and has always been a strong supporter of the arts. Kota was quite a popular model amongst many of our area artists who have depicted him in their work over the years. He was a distinguished and beloved member of our community, and he will be greatly missed by all.

If you created any works of Kota as an artist in our community, we would love you to share them in the comments in his honor.
