Childcare Cheat Sheet

While the Den and Cafe will remain open, please see the following note from Haley Elizabeth Zurawel and Childcare Cheat Sheet regarding the temporary cancellation of playgroups...

We have decided to follow Ulster County’s guidelines for schools, and postpone our playgroup events for at least the next two weeks. The den will remain open, and the playrooms are always free for anyone visiting the den for a tour or meal, however there will be no organized activities until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we feel this is the best way to help keep everyone safe with the situation as it stands right now.

In the meantime, please know that we will remain as active as possible on our social media profiles, and will be trying to focus on sharing activities that are easy to create with materials you already have at home, in order to help inspire you to continue your child’s education during this extremely difficult and surreal situation.

We have been working on a membership-based curriculum and materials plan, which we hope to expedite in order to give parents access to any resources they may while school is closed and continuing into the future. If you are a playgroup parent who may be interested in such a thing, please reach out to me as we would like to offer you a discount while our in-session events are on-hold.

Wash your hands, avoid touching things as much as possible, and remind everyone how much you love them.

Xx. Haley

03/12/2020

Starting next week The Den's new hours will be Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 11-5 for the foreseeable future.
We do plan however to expand our hours on those days and offer dinners to go from 5-7. Private parties and dinners etc during the week or weekend are still available too by reservation.

This is not virus related in anyway! (I will shut it down if there is an inkling of it!) This is about making some changes to help The Den grow to be the best it can be. In time we plan on adding days back.

Now more then ever please come give your mind a break from all the news and experience our cozy magical place.

Steiff

March is Women’s History Month and we couldn’t be prouder to spotlight our Founder, Margarete Steiff 🐻❤️ The story of children’s dreams come true: As an energetic young girl, Margarete Steiff fought for her place in life, against much resistance. Stricken with polio, her fierce determination and passion for life influenced her to become one of the world’s first female CEO’s. With a pin cushion in the shape of a small stuffed elephant, she wrote the first chapter of Steiff’s unprecedented success story, which is still being continued today, over 100 years later. Thanks to the loving dedication and quality consciousness of all the employees, the story of Margarete Steiff and Steiff GmbH remain inseparable from each other. #steiff #steiffusa #womenshistorymonth #womenempowerment #womeninbusiness #steiffteddy #teddybear

Please consider a visit to help support and grow The Den!

Just 2 hours or 90 miles north of NYC up the Thruway and 8 miles on Rt 209 South to get here. 1 hour 15 minutes from Yorktown Heights, 60 minutes South of Albany and 20 minutes South of Woodstock NY.

We were given 5 circles on all of our Trip Advisor reviews. Here they are below. Thanks !

Incredible Collection of high quality stuffed animals..
“My wife and I had heard of this place and so we took the hr drive... Unbelievable! The man who put the dispalys together and ascertained the hundreds of high quality stuffed animals was extremely informative and polite.. A must see with or w/o kids!”

Wonderful memories for me
“I grew up with a collection of Steiff stuffed animals. I was excited to visit the Den of Marbletown.
We were greeted by Steve who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Steiff history. The museum is housed in a home that was in the Basten family for 7 generations until purchased by Steve. Not only will you find creative displays of Steiff animals, you’ll also see a collection of Madame Alexander dolls, Barbies and other various collectibles. The collection of Steiff animals really impressed me.
There’s a small cafe in the museum. Steve has been in the food industry for over 30 years. I was excited to see they served bubble tea!”

We Could “Bear-ly” Contain Our Excitement!
“My best friend and I just had a wonderful time at The Den of Marbletown. It’s a fantastic Steiff teddy bear museum and cafe. They have an amazing number of Steiff teddy bears and animals, a room full of Madame Alexander dolls, a collection of Barbies, a tempting gift shop and a cafe with yummy treats. All of this is nestled in a historic farmhouse. We had a pleasant ride from Albany NY and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Interesting and fun for all ages. You’ll come away with a big smile on your face!”

Wonderful visit with the kids!
“Had a delightful stop at the Den of Marbletown on our way to the Catskill Mountains. Our two kids absolutely loved the Teddy Bear Museum, which had several exhibit areas but also a nice playroom. As an adult, I was surprised how much I liked it myself. It was fascinating to learn the history of stuffed animals, and to see the great variety in the collection.

We also had lunch at the new Den Cafe, which was quite tasty and very reasonably priced.

All in all, a great stop to break up a long drive. I think our kids will remember this museum for quite a long time.

Thank you!”

Do the Museum Tour and Lunch
“Steve and Nan welcomed us when we arrived and were wonderful hosts. Steve gave us a tour of the Museum while Nan guided another group. We enjoyed the numerous rooms of adorable Steiff and other toys. We were engaged by the stories and anecdotes told by Steve.

So many of the toys had historical significance. For example, there was a special Titanic Bear that was created to help the children that lost loved ones in that fatal ship accident. We were allowed to hug several Steiff bears in the collection, including the Titanic bear. I felt such great energy from them.

There is a small cafe on premise. All the food is homemade. I enjoyed a large bowl of brothy chicken soup with quinoa, fresh herbs and teddy bear shaped croutons. This soup tasted so fresh, just like my Nana used to make.

Because the cafe is small, I advise making a reservation for both lunch and a museum tour.”

Amazing displays, riveting history, and spectacular tour guide
“We stumbled upon the Den a few weeks back while exploring all that Kingston, NY has to offer. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. The museum is filled with cleverly decorated rooms sure to thrill visitors of all ages.
When we arrived, we fully expected to view Steiff animals from all generations while learning more about the Steiff name but we were pleasantly surprised by the level of knowledge displayed by the museum owner, Steve.
Steve made us feel welcome and at home while he transcended us back through time hitting every detail of how Steiff came to be the household teddy bear name that it is today.
When we were done with the grand tour we browsed the impressive gift shop and Steve let us know that they are working on adding a coffee shop as well!
Steve's passion is truly contagious, you don't want to miss stopping in for a visit.”

Hard to say which is more charming - the hosts or the museum!
“The price is far too low for the fun of the time spent here. The hosts are amazing experts with an infectious enthusiasm for all things Steiff. The collection is large, the gift shop has things in all price points, and you will leave a fan. For the kids, they have created quite a magical little place. A great stop on a trip to the Hudson Valley.”

A Hidden Gem
“My husband and I discovered this wonderful museum today. Located in a beautiful converted house from the 1800s which is outside of the hub of Kingston it houses several rooms with Stieff stuffed animals, some historic, as well as a gift shop with a large selection of Stieff products. Steve, the owner, was a most personable and informative tour guide. He clearly loves the animals and takes great care of them. The animals were arranged beautifully with a lot of thought. He is very knowledgeable and informative.

(I could see children enjoying the tour if they are good at listening and not touching. Although Steve graciously allowed us to hold some of the bears in the museum parents should realize that the museum is not interactive. Children can probably carefully touch the animals that are for sale in the gift shop.)

The museum will be adding snacking facilities and a film area soon. It has stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.

We enjoyed ourselves very much and would be happy to return. It was very easy to find along route 209.”

Nancy is the first artist I asked to make a display for The Den Of Marbletown. You can watch videos of her painting Jazz Musicians live on stage on her website. It's very cool!

Deeply textured and enthralling in their execution, Ostrovsky's improvisational works draw wholly from the immediacy of the musicians' resonant vibrations in the room as a testament to the singular...

Doing things right at The Den of Marbletown!
a friend and i visited today! this is a wonder-full place with an incredible array of antique and modern teddy bears, stuffed animals and dolls. It was amazing, the owners were so nice. Informative, friendly, and really kind. This is a unique place not to be missed. you do not need kids to enjoy it but kids would be in heaven here
