Peonies have always been a favorite of mine. My grandmother had giant Peonies on the south side of her house. They continued to bloom for years and years, even after we moved on the farm. I even divided them out once. The smell of peonies is always very melancholy for me. My grandfather, Alfred Winholtz, would always come around and pick the biggest blooms for the grave sites-lol-how could I be upset?!
I almost always paint the sun shining from the right, so this piece is unusual for me.
