Today we remember Sophia Vari (1940–2023), an artist whose work transformed strength, balance, and movement into a deeply personal visual language.

Known for her powerful sculptural forms, Vari created works that combined geometric structure with emotion and elegance. Her practice moved fluidly between bronze, marble, painting, collage, and jewelry, always revealing her fascination with volume, rhythm, and the harmony between opposing forces.

In the studio, her process was both physical and intimate. Each form carried the presence of the artist’s hand, shaped with precision, sensitivity, and a remarkable understanding of space.

On the anniversary of her passing, we honor Sophia Vari’s legacy and the timeless force of her artistic vision.

On his birthday, we recognize Guillermo Muñoz Vera, an artist whose work is defined by exceptional technical precision and a deeply refined approach to realism.

Rooted in classical painting traditions, Muñoz Vera has developed a practice that bridges historical technique with contemporary subject matter. His compositions are meticulously constructed, where light, texture, and detail are rendered with remarkable clarity, inviting a closer and more deliberate way of seeing.

Beyond their technical mastery, his works explore themes of time, memory, and perception. Whether depicting architectural spaces, objects, or landscapes, each scene carries a quiet stillness where observation becomes both an aesthetic and conceptual experience.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in important public and private collections, reflecting a career shaped by discipline, consistency, and a commitment to excellence in painting.

Today, we celebrate his birthday and a body of work that continues to resonate across generations.

A look back at the opening of Mimetism: Echoes that breathe by Karla de Lara at Art of the World Gallery.

The evening brought together collectors, friends, and the artist herself to experience a body of work that unfolds through layers of memory, transformation, and perception. Throughout the exhibition, Karla constructs a visual language where fragments of personal history, artistic influence, and lived experience converge—forming compositions that feel both intimate and expansive.

Each work invites a different reading. Forms emerge, dissolve, and reappear, creating a sense of movement that extends beyond the surface and into the space itself. The result is an environment that feels immersive, where meaning is not fixed but continuously evolving.

We invite you to step into the universe of Karla de Lara and experience the exhibition in person.

Now on view at the gallery through June 6.

On Earth Day, we reflect on the natural world not only as subject, but as experience.

In the work of Zhong Zhuang, landscape is not fixed. It is felt. Through subtle shifts of color, light, and reflection, his compositions evoke the quiet, immersive presence of nature in constant transformation.

In Phantom Sound and Color No. 5, water and atmosphere dissolve into one another, creating a space where perception becomes fluid and intangible. In contrast, The Scent of Autumn No. 10 introduces a warmth of color and seasonality, where light filters through the landscape and the passage of time becomes visible.

Together, these works move beyond representation, offering a sensory experience of nature that is both immediate and ephemeral.

These works, along with others, are currently on view at the gallery.

A reminder of the delicate and ever changing relationship between environment and observation.

Seen from above, the gallery reveals a broader composition.

Each work occupies its own space, yet together they form a carefully considered environment where modern masters and contemporary artists coexist in dialogue. From painting to sculpture, each piece contributes to a layered experience shaped by contrast, scale, and placement.

At Art of the World Gallery, our program brings together artists with distinct voices, united by a commitment to craftsmanship, concept, and presence.

This year, we celebrate 10 years in River Oaks, continuing to grow as part of the Houston art community while presenting a program shaped by both global perspectives and a strong local presence.

Curation is not only about what is shown, but how it is experienced.

We invite you to visit the gallery and discover the works in person.

One of our art advisors, Aneliz Aguilar, was recently featured in CARAS México, in an article that highlights her path, perspective, and connection to the arts beyond the spotlight.

In this feature, Aneliz is pictured alongside works that reflect the breadth of our gallery program: a piece by renowned Mexican modernist Rufino Tamayo, and the iconic Beetle sculpture by contemporary artist Ichwan Noor—a striking fusion of design, identity, and cultural reinterpretation.

This feature celebrates not only her personal and professional growth, but also Art of the World Gallery’s ongoing commitment to presenting both historically significant and contemporary voices on an international stage.

In this conversation, Karla de Lara reflects on the meaning behind Mimetism: Echoes that breathe—a title that speaks to the act of absorbing, transforming, and reinterpreting the world around us.

Her work emerges from the convergence of multiple influences: fragments of memory, artists who have shaped her visual language, and moments from her own life that continue to resurface and evolve. Within her compositions, these elements do not remain separate—they merge, overlap, and coexist, forming what feels like parallel worlds unfolding within a single space.

Rather than offering fixed narratives, Karla creates environments where meaning is in constant movement—where the familiar becomes uncertain, and where each layer carries both personal history and collective reference.

Mimetism becomes not only a concept, but a process—one that reflects how we internalize experience and transform it into something new.

On his birthday, we recognize Cristóbal Toral, a Spanish artist whose work stands at the intersection of realism and conceptual thought.

Known for his iconic depictions of suitcases, abandoned objects, and suspended still lifes, Toral transforms the everyday into powerful reflections on displacement, memory, and identity. His compositions often evoke themes of travel, exile, and the passage of time—where objects become silent witnesses to human experience.

Rooted in technical precision yet deeply symbolic in nature, his work invites viewers to consider not only what is seen, but what is carried—both physically and emotionally.

Today, we celebrate an artist whose work continues to resonate across cultures and generations.
