Spotlight on Stephen Dean

Gallery artist, Stephen Dean presents “ECHO”, a new spatial installation created for the former neoclassical church, Elleboogkerk, in the Netherlands.

Five monumental ladders of dichroic glass hang within the space, activating a play of light, color and movement.
The work is an adaptation of “Crescendo”, the site-specific installation Dean realized at the Basilique de Saint-Denis in 2024.

For more information about Stephen Dean and his work, please contact [email protected]

“ECHO” will be on view at the Elleboorgkerk until August 30, 2026

McClain Gallery is honored to highlight a powerful initiative supporting “Elizabeth Speaks”, an upcoming documentary written and directed by about her grandmother, revolutionary artist and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett.

Gallery artist, Delita Martin has created a limited edition print, “La Zarzamora de Ebon: Monumento a la Niña Soberana”, with 100% of proceeds directly funding the film. The edition is being pulled in Elizabeth Catlett’s own studio in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on her personal press, making this initiative both artistically and historically resonant.

Opening Tomorrow | Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin: “Around the Corner and Two Blocks Down”

The exhibition features a group of new “wind drawings” depicting fragments of architecture and details of sites throughout Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas that formerly housed q***r spaces. Nick and Jake make beautifully material work that spans media to reveal q***r histories from all 50 states. In their ongoing series of “wind drawings”, the artists have developed a technique that uses dispersal in order to engrain charcoal into paper. They translate photographs into laser cut stencils and lay down charcoal powder onto the page. Then, they blow the charcoal away using pressurized air. Nick and Jake’s drawings teem with symbolic gestures: charcoal recalls the ruinous potential of fire on wood and paper; wind evokes erosion and objects lost to time and space; paper is the historical material for the official record, fraught with sensitivity to the elements.

This exhibition marks our second solo exhibition with artists Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin at McClain Gallery

🗓️ Please join us for an artist reception celebrating the opening tomorrow, Thursday, January 15, from 6–8 PM.
