The final day of the Needham Jones Boot Camp concluded with an unforgettable trip to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, where campers explored the importance of service, sacrifice, and leadership while touring one of America's historic military vessels. They also enjoyed a special lunch aboard the ship, making for a memorable end to an incredible week.

A special thank you to Major Antoine Oliver, whose leadership, mentorship, and dedication made this year's boot camp a tremendous success. His investment in these young men truly made a lasting impact.
Each camper also received everything needed to begin the new school year with confidence and success.

As our campers head back to school, we wish them—and all students—a safe, successful, and rewarding school year. Continue to lead with integrity, serve others, and strive for excellence.

Success begins with preparation. On Day 4, campers focused on preparing for future success through interview preparation, résumé building, and developing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals. Led by former Human Resources professional, Ms. Brown, and Boot Camp facilitator Major Antoine Oliver, campers learned how to make a strong first impression, communicate confidently during interviews, and create realistic goals to help guide their academic and personal growth. These practical skills will serve them well as they prepare for future educational and career opportunities.

Thank you, Ms. Brown and Major Oliver, for sharing your expertise and helping these young men build confidence for the future.

On Day 3 of the Needham Jones Boot Camp, campers participated in etiquette and fine dining training led by EB Etiquette and Professional Services, where they learned valuable social and professional skills they'll carry for years to come.

The day concluded with a delicious meal at Buschman Street Café, where the owner complimented the campers on their excellent manners, respectful behavior, and willingness to learn.

✈Adventure took flight on Day 2 of the Needham Jones Boot Camp! Campers visited Bobby L. Chain Municipal Airport, where they had the opportunity to get up close with aircraft while learning about aviation careers and the important role the airport plays in connecting our community and supporting economic growth.

The campers' day concluded with a Passport Adventure to the Saenger Theater and the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum, where they enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Saenger Theater, learned about its rich history and the work involved in managing a performing arts venue, and explored the whimsical art installations and interactive exhibits that make the Pocket Museum a unique community destination.

Experiences like these help campers discover new possibilities while encouraging them to dream big.

Thank you to everyone at Bobby L. Chain Municipal Airport for making this educational visit possible, and a special thank you to Airport Manager Chip Gibson for providing our campers with an engaging and informative behind-the-scenes tour.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the team at the Saenger Theater for an interactive experience that brought the historic venue to life. Their behind-the-scenes tour gave campers a unique look at the theater's rich history, daily operations, and the important role it plays in our community.

The 2026 Needham Jones Boot Camp began with a heartfelt welcome as six outstanding young men embarked on a week of learning, leadership, and personal growth.

We were honored to welcome members of the Jones family, including Dr. Needham Jones, Sr.'s three beloved daughters, who shared personal stories about their father and the values he lived by. Their reflections reminded our campers that leadership begins with integrity, service, and a commitment to helping others.

Thank you to the Jones family for helping us launch another meaningful week while honoring Dr. Jones' incredible legacy.

Meet the Man Behind the Mission. The Needham Jones Boot Camp is more than a summer program—it's a living tribute to a man who dedicated his life to educating, mentoring, and uplifting young people.

Corporal Needham Jones, Sr. answered the call to serve during World War II as a member of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen's 99th Pursuit Squadron, providing vital ground and technical support. After returning home, he devoted more than three decades to education, inspiring generations of students and ensuring that young people had every opportunity to succeed. He believed deeply in the power of education and often went above and beyond—helping students stay in school by providing clothing, encouragement, and even financial support when needed.

As a longtime friend and supporter of the African American Military History Museum, Jones often shared his experiences with visitors and proudly participated in our boot camp, encouraging young men to become leaders of character. He expressed a heartfelt desire to see a program specifically designed to teach young men the life skills they would need to succeed.

Pictured is Dr. Needham Jones, Sr., proudly holding his Congressional Gold Medal, one of the nation's highest civilian honors, presented in recognition of the courage, service, and enduring legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.
