Experience an inspiring evening of dance, film, music, and theatrical performances that honor freedom, resilience, hope, and cultural heritage. Featuring talented students and artists from William Carey University and the University of Southern Mississippi, this special event will bring our community together through storytelling, creativity, and shared history.

Bring your friends, family, and neighbors as we celebrate the enduring impact of African American culture and envision a brighter future through the transformative power of the arts.

A junior Vocal Performance major at William Carey University, Catia Madison of Terry, Mississippi, is a talented vocalist whose performances have captivated audiences across the state. She is active in the WCU Chorale, Worship Choir, Carpenter’s Wood Gospel Ensemble, and the Knights of Jazz.

Catia is widely recognized for her powerful portrayal of Celie in The Color Purple and is a regional NATS Musical Theatre division winner.

For this Juneteenth celebration, D’Ambrah will perform Doomed by Moses Sumney, a moving piece that reflects themes of resilience, vulnerability, and hope. Through dance, she seeks to create space for empathy, remembrance, and meaningful conversation, inviting audiences to connect with the stories and emotions woven into every movement.

Needham Jones Boot Camp
July 6, 7, 8, 13 & 14 | 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | African American Military History Museum
Parents, this is more than a camp. It’s an investment in your son's future. Designed for young men ages 12–15, this fully sponsored, hands-on experience helps participants build confidence, strengthen communication skills, explore career opportunities, develop leadership abilities, and learn practical tools for success in school and life.
• School supplies provided
• Lunch and snacks included daily
• Limited to only 15 participants for personalized attention

Charles J. Brown Youth Civic Engagement and Leadership Camp
July 13–17 | 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Historic Eureka School
Designed for rising 7th–9th graders, this one-of-a-kind leadership camp empowers students to discover the power of their voice, develop leadership skills, and learn how they can make a real difference in their community. Through interactive activities, inspiring guest speakers, and visits to historical sites, campers will gain valuable experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and civic engagement.
To wrap up their experience, each student will create a community issues project and showcase their work during a special Community Showcase on July 18.

🎭 Meet the Artist: Olivia Grace Landry 🎭
Born and raised in New Orleans, Olivia Grace Landry is a graduate of NOCCA's Musical Theatre program and is currently pursuing her BFA in Performance at the University of Southern Mississippi. During the event, Olivia will perform "Home" from The Wiz and "Waiting for Life" from Once on This Island—two powerful songs that explore themes of longing, belonging, Black joy, resilience, and cultural pride.
For Olivia, the stage is more than a place to perform—it is a platform for advocacy. As president of Harlem at USM, she is dedicated to fostering opportunities for BIPOC artists and creating space for equitable representation in theatre. Through every performance, Olivia carries a commitment to sharing light, building community, and ensuring that artists of color are seen, supported, and celebrated.

Hope, Roots and Culture: An Evening of Artistic Expression ✨🎶

Join us on June 19 at 6:30 PM at the Historic Eureka School for an inspiring evening celebrating the stories, traditions, and creative expressions that connect our past, present, and future.

Through dance, film, music, and theater, talented performers from William Carey University's The Winters School of Music and The University of Southern Mississippi's School of Performing and Visual Arts will explore themes of hope, heritage, family, community, creativity, and culture. In recognition of Juneteenth, the evening will also celebrate Black joy, freedom, resilience, and artistic legacy.

Hope, Roots and Culture is produced by Katrina Cox and Hillary Scales.

The event is free and open to the public. Come experience an evening of powerful performances, meaningful reflection, and community connection as we honor the roots that ground us and the hope that carries us forward.

✈ , June 15, 1921, the incredible Bessie Coleman made history by earning her international pilot's license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. She defied racial and gender barriers, inspiring generations to reach for the skies!

In honor of Bessie Coleman's enduring legacy, we awarded two inquisitive learners Bessie Coleman dolls! These bright young minds embarked on a youth trip hosted by the First Missionary Baptist Church of Bay St. Louis, where they toured the Sixth Street Museum District and learned about Bessie Coleman.

Their journey is a beautiful testament to the power of education and inspiration, showing how Bessie Coleman's spirit continues to encourage dreams and achievements in our youth. Let's celebrate her courage and the bright futures she continues to inspire!🛩
