Connect, reflect, and learn. See 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚: 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙃𝙮𝙪𝙣 𝘽𝙖𝙚 through a new lens with guest speaker Rabbi Tzvia Jasper. We will discuss themes of brokenness within Jewish mystical concepts, connecting them to the artwork and our lived experiences. Discussion will be encouraged. Folks of all backgrounds are welcome!

in 1917, Jacob Lawrence was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This year his birthday coincides with Labor Day, a perfect opportunity to highlight his bold, dynamic works of builders and laborers. Lawrence dedicated himself to this subject matter, returning to it throughout his career in the form of prints, paintings, and drawings. The series is imbued with themes of progress, determination, craft, and unity, particularly highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of Black communities to American society. Lawrence remains one of the most celebrated Black American artists in history.

Susquehanna Art Museum had the pleasure of exhibiting two of the 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 works over the years, featured in the exhibitions Making Your Mark (2022) and Memories & Inspiration: The Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art (2024).

In her Ode to the Women of Josun Dynasty series, SoHyun Bae reimagines the women who were largely absent from the visual record of Korea's Joseon Dynasty.

In 𝘈 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘑𝘰𝘴𝘶𝘯 𝘋𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘺: 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘑𝘢𝘳, the female figure and vessel become intertwined. The title references the historical Korean practice of preserving a child's placenta in a ceremonial jar, transforming an object associated with birth into a symbol of memory, identity, and continuity. Through luminous layers of pigment, rice paper, and fabric, Bae honors women's experiences while reflecting on the ways history preserves some stories and overlooks others.
