The next time you visit Rockport, step inside the gallery and meet David and his wife Sue, enjoy relaxing jazz music, and take your time viewing dozens of original oil paintings and numerous canvas giclée prints. Be sure to bring your own unique way of seeing—along with your love of Cape Ann. The Wall Street Journal once recognized his style for its similarity to Edward Hopper’s—who likewise painted on Cape Ann—by stating that “Some of Mr. Arsenault’s paintings could pass for works by Edward Hopper, just at a thousandth of the price.” Arsenault is known for his colorful and
dramatically-lit “frozen moment” scenes of Cape Ann and Cape Cod, along with road trips, neon signs and night, and landmarks like diners and drive-ins. His current work is exclusively made up of paintings depicting places in and around Cape Ann, focusing around Rockport and Gloucester.

As we move from August into September, it feels different. The activities change, too: the beach is quieter, and perhaps the lifeguard has returned to school. The sand tells the story of those who came, yet without revealing their secrets. It's still summer...but only a few weeks remain. And what a summer it has been. The days may end, but the memories will linger.

I'm happy to report that another piece from "Invitations & Icons" has found a new home. "Stowe Away" (12 x 12, oil) will be staying on the North Shore. My thanks to Tom not only for acquiring it for his home, but also for the way he described what it means to him.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended yesterday's artist reception at the Rockport Art Association & Museum. Special thanks to Derek and Molly for acquiring "One of the Bradley Buoys" (12 x 16 oil) which I will gladly deliver once the exhibition is over. And that's SOON: the show ends this coming Thursday, September 3rd. RAA&M is open 12-5 today, 10-5 weekdays. If you'd like to see it and/or purchase a painting or two, do hurry! As they say on TV, this is a limited-time-only opportunity.

Over the weekend, our grandson got his first drive-in experience. Mom and Dad took him to the site of one of my earliest paintings, "The Big Picture" (© 1995, 20" x 46" oil, private collection). The Jericho, in upstate NY, is open for its 70th season! I would have gone a number of times...perhaps even with Grayson's mom—as a young girl—in the back seat.😉
