September 25th is National Lobster Day, and here at Maritime Gloucester, we celebrate and care for these cool crustaceans every day! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜
💭 Did you know?
National Lobster Day is celebrated twice a year, June 15th and September 25th! The September celebration was officially recognized by the U.S. Senate in 2015 and falls right around peak lobster harvest season.
A few fun lobster facts:
🦞 American lobsters can live for decades, with some estimated to reach 100+ years old!
🦞 Lobsters molt, or shed their shells, around 20–25 times before reaching adulthood.
🦞 Female lobsters can carry thousands, or even over 100,000, eggs beneath their tails for 9–11 months.
🦞 Lobsters are territorial and love squeezing into rocky crevices where they can stay protected.
Today, we’re also celebrating the hardworking lobstermen who are such an important part of our coastal communities. Lobstering is demanding and often dangerous work, and we’re especially grateful to our local fishing community here on Cape Ann. 💙
