The Brigade of the American Revolution An Association of Revolutionary War Living Historians Since 1962 the Brigade has been recreating a broad spectrum of the 18th Century.

It's activities include military encampments, tactical exercises, firelock shooting competitions, craft demonstrations and social activities. The Brigade also conducts annual schools and educational seminars featuring experts from several fields of 18th Century study.

Registration is now OPEN for the planned 250th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of White Plains, taking place October 23–25, 2026 at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Westchester County, New York.

The weekend is currently planned to feature large-scale Revolutionary War encampments, tactical demonstrations, artisans, educational programming, and immersive living history experiences as we commemorate one of the pivotal campaigns of 1776.

Please note that all programming and logistics remain subject to final county approvals and contract authorization.

The Brigade of the American Revolution joins the historical community in mourning the passing of Gordon S. Wood, one of the most influential scholars of the American Revolution and early American Republic.

Although Dr. Wood never presented for the Brigade, his scholarship profoundly shaped the way generations of historians, educators, researchers, and living historians have understood the Revolutionary era. His landmark works, including The Creation of the American Republic and Pulitzer Prize-winning The Radicalism of the American Revolution, challenged us to think more deeply about the meaning, impact, and legacy of the Revolution.

Many within our community first encountered the Revolution through his books, lectures, and essays. His dedication to understanding the founding generation helped inspire countless individuals to study, teach, preserve, and interpret the history we strive to bring to life.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, students, and colleagues.

His contributions to the study of the American Revolution will continue to educate and inspire for generations to come.

This past weekend, members of the Brigade of the American Revolution gathered in Putnam County and Yorktown Heights to commemorate the people, events, and international partnerships that helped secure American independence.

We were especially honored by the presence of French Deputy Consul of New York, Myriam Gil, and Brigadier General Guillaume Ponchin, Head of the French Military and Defense Office to the United Nations. Their participation served as a powerful reminder of the friendship between France and the United States and the vital role that alliance played in securing American independence.

A heartfelt thank you to Lynn Briggs and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association New York (W3R-NY) for their invitation, partnership, and dedication in making this weekend a success.

As we continue commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, we are already looking ahead and beginning conversations about celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Franco-American Alliance in 2028.

Thank you to all the volunteers, participants, partners, and visitors who made this weekend so memorable. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Why White Plains?

Following the fall of New York City in 1776, General George Washington maneuvered his army north through Westchester in a desperate effort to avoid destruction. The Battle of White Plains became a critical moment in the New York Campaign — a test of endurance, leadership, and survival during some of the darkest days of the Revolution.

In October 2026, plans are underway to commemorate the battle’s 250th anniversary through a large-scale living history event at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

While all details remain subject to final approval and authorization, we are excited for the opportunity to help bring this pivotal campaign to life for the public.

This weekend the Brigade of the American Revolution will attend the Rochambeau Festival on June 7, 2026 in Yorktown Heights, New York.

Presented by Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route – NY and the Brigade of the American Revolution, this day of living history will highlight the powerful partnership between the United States and France during the War for Independence.

The festival will also feature distinguished guests and international representatives honoring the historic Franco-American alliance, including members of the French delegation and guests associated with the United Nations.

Important Battle of Brooklyn 250 Update

Due to the ongoing conflict and heightened security concerns connected to the war in the Middle East, Fort Hamilton is unfortunately no longer available as an overnight camping location for the 2026 Battle of Brooklyn commemorative weekend.

While this change was unexpected, the Board of the Brigade of the American Revolution has been working closely with our partners to ensure that alternative accommodations and programming opportunities are secured for participants.

We are currently in discussions with several potential locations for Friday and Saturday overnight camping options, including both 18th-century and modern camping, as well as possible Sunday programming opportunities.

Despite this adjustment, the commemorative programming throughout Brooklyn on Saturday, August 22, 2026 will continue as planned. Following morning transportation to the event sites, participants and visitors will experience a series of programs tracing the events and legacy of the Battle of Brooklyn. Highlights of the day include a strategic overview of the campaign in Prospect Park, tactical skirmishes and interpretation at Green-Wood Cemetery and the Old Stone House, and a special Maryland Commemoration Ceremony featuring dignitaries and keynote speakers.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue coordinating logistics for this major 250th anniversary event. Additional updates will be shared as soon as arrangements are finalized.

Established to encourage continued study of the Revolutionary Era, the grant supports researchers, graduate students, public historians, and independent scholars whose work deepens our understanding of the American Revolution and the Atlantic World between 1763 and 1785.
