The Association of Midwest Museums (AMM), founded in 1927, is a dynamic, non-profit membership organization that provides resources to museums and cultural institutions and services to museum professionals in an eight-state region in the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. AMM provides a forum for dialogue and an exchange of ideas, provides resources to create and sustain strong cultural institutions, and fosters professional development and leadership within the museum community. AMM manages a variety of social media channels intended to connect, inform, engage, and support members of the museum community in the Midwest and beyond. Our community includes diverse organizations and individuals, who all have the right to feel comfortable and who may not think what you think, believe what you believe, or see what you see. Help us create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all by adhering to the following basic guidelines in your comments and exchanges related to our social media and blog posts. https://www.midwestmuseums.org/news/online-guidelines/

We encourage healthy dialogue between our community members and welcome comments that
- are respectful and inclusive
- are related to the topic at hand
- engage in debate respectfully
- add insights and perspectives to the conversation

We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment in any form. We moderate comments and reserve the right to delete any comment at any time for any reason, including comments that:
- are personal, which includes any comment that attacks another individual’s or organization’s credibility or motivation, attacks another person’s lived experiences or identity, violates or infringes in any other way upon the rights and safety of others, including any statements which may defame, harass, stalk, or threaten
- are offensive to the online community, including, without limitation, expressions of obscenity, bigotry, racism, abusiveness, vulgarity or profanity
- include unsolicited or unauthorized advertising or promotional materials or any solicitation with respect to products, services, political campaigns and/or lobbying
- impersonate any person or organization or otherwise misrepresent your affiliations with any people or organizations
- interfere with any other user’s right to privacy
- includes content that violates anyone’s ownership rights without their express written consent in advance. Thank you for your cooperation.

HIRING: Executive Director, IUMAA
Application deadline: January 28, 2023
Full description: https://museum-search.com/all-searches/2022/12/7/indiana-university-museum-of-archaeology-and-anthropology

We are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and forward-thinking cross-discipline museum professional to serve as Executive Director of the Indiana University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA).

**The fundamental mission of the IUMAA is to bring university, Indigenous, and public audiences together in a progressive and respectful dialogue that increases knowledge of the material world in the service of social justice and environmental stewardship.**

The Executive Director is responsible for the operations of the Museum, including setting and implementing the Museum’s direction, managing its budget, expanding its financial support, and developing new in-person and online audiences. The Director must have a strong vision and high degree of professionalism to effectively mobilize and activate the Museum’s efforts to develop relationships that strengthen the Museum. The successful candidate will exhibit proficiency in fundraising and financial management and have a thorough understanding of legal and ethical museum management, including NAGPRA. They will also be cognizant of the broader political and cultural implications around repatriation, and familiar with the complex political, legal, and cultural milieu of Native American and global Indigenous peoples.

For a full list of responsibilities, necessary skills/experience, and compensation, please review the full job description: https://museum-search.com/all-searches/2022/12/7/indiana-university-museum-of-archaeology-and-anthropology

Congratulations to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Glenn North for being recognized by the Association of Midwest Museums with the Groundbreakers Award for their podcast "A Frame of Mind." You can watch the virtual event here and learn all about this incredible work.

There are so many worthy organizations to support this , but please consider the Nelson-Atkins so they can continue to offer free general admission, school tours and workshops, community programming, and so much more. Go to nelson-atkins.org/donate today!

The Groundbreakers Award recognizes museums or cultural organizations who have pushed past boundaries, broken conventions, addressed uncomfortable truths about their institution’s histories and connection to oppressive systems and structures, and/or creatively engaged collaborative partners to affect change in the pursuit of a better, more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future. Nominees’ external or internal projects or initiatives—big or small—have resulted in better support for their staff and volunteers, greater service to their diverse communities, new thinking about their collections, or advancement of social justice work in their communities. Museums of any size are qualified and encouraged to apply, and will be honored for their internal or external efforts to advance diversity and equity at their institutions.

Exciting news -- we won an award!

In July, Hannah Johnson, former Director of Youth and Family Education at the Museum, attended the Association of Midwest Museums' annual conference in Milwaukee, WI, to receive the exclusive Best Practices 2022 Award on behalf of Breaking Bread and its 20+ contributors. "The Best Practices Award recognizes museums and cultural organizations whose innovative projects or community partnerships and collaborations have pushed beyond the status quo and led to the advancement of best museum practices or the establishment of new practices at their institutions in order to better fulfill their missions. Typically, one organization is recognized."

What an honor for this program to be recognized as best in the Midwest! This award belongs to all the community partners who contributed their time, knowledge, and recipes to this effort. Thank you!

Breaking Bread in McLean County (2021) is a 10-part online program series highlighting the shared and disparate experiences of local im/migrant communities from the Kickapoo Nation to Congolese Americans through stories of food, family, tradition, trauma, and exchange. It was a partnership between the McLean County Museum of History (MCMH), BN Welcoming (a coalition of the The Immigration Project, Not In Our Town: Bloomington-Normal/Not In Our Schools, West Bloomington Revitalization Project, Mennonite Church of Normal, and First United Methodist Church together creating a supportive environment for immigrants to McLean County), Design Streak at Illinois State University, and Heartland Community College.

This is the second award for the Breaking Bread series, the first was an Illinois Association of Museums award in April 2022 for Superior Achievement in Community Partnerships.

The entire award-winning Breaking Bread series can be viewed on the McLean County Museum of History’s YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeoTL4N-ea-TQb1qZ58J2lbArEiV86k5l

Our podcast, A Frame of Mind, received the Groundbreakers Award from Association of Midwest Museums. Congratulations to host Glenn North, producer Christine Murray, all the guests, and our amazing Learning & Engagement staff. Listen to the five-episode series described as "a thoughtful, introspective response to community requests for accountability," available where you find podcasts or on our website here: https://bit.ly/3yOyc88.
Attention all paid staff members (Directors, administrative staff, instructional staff, etc.) from Environmental Learning (EL) organizations in the U.S. that offer youth-based education programs and have been working in their position for 6 months or more! Can you give around 20 minutes of your time to complete a survey?

My study is titled “Inclusive Practices in Environmental Learning for Students with Disabilities: What are EL organizations doing?”. The survey inquires what EL Organizations are doing to increase accessibility to diverse populations so all children can fully participate in their educational programs.

Environmental Learning (EL) is an umbrella term used to include the various iterations of environmental-focused education programs dealing with human relationships with the natural environment.
This survey will take 20– 30 minutes to complete. Participation is completely voluntary, and you can end your participation at any time by closing your web browser with the open survey. At the end of the survey, you have the option to enter a drawing for a gift card. The survey will remain open until May 1st, 2022.

The link to complete the survey: https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_87BApVFHpk5YDs2
The link will initially take you to the Informed Consent Form that also has more information on the study prior to starting the survey. This study has been reviewed and approved by the University of Arizona IRB office.

Please share widely among your networks.
