What does a day at Conner Prairie look like? For , it meant following her curiosity wherever it led! 🌿 ✨

Her family created in Spark!Lab, colored and explored sensory play at The Junction, discovered butterflies and nature, jumped into the Wellspring foam pit and cooled off at River Crossing. 💦

That’s the fun of a day on the Prairie—there’s always another place to explore, something to try and a new story waiting around the corner.

Planning a Labor Day weekend visit? River Crossing closes for the season after Labor Day, so there’s still time to make one more splash!

A tradition more than two decades in the making. 🐑 🧶 Last Sunday, Conner Prairie’s youth spinning teams competed in Sheep to Shawl at the Indiana State Fair—putting teamwork, creativity and leadership into action.

For more than 20 years, Sue Payne has helped guide generations of youth spinners, watching them grow from first-time competitors into confident leaders and mentors.

And the spinning doesn’t stop at the Fair! During your next visit to Conner Prairie, stop by the Loom House to see Sue and our youth spinners keeping these skills and traditions in motion.

🍞 Before the bread could rise, someone had to make the yeast. At the Golden Eagle Inn, our Baker creates yeast from hops, potatoes and water before putting it to work in a historic Ankerstock Bread recipe.

Inspired by recipes and traditions from the 1820s, this process is a reminder that baking once began long before the dough was mixed. From tending hops to managing the heat of the oven, every loaf required time, knowledge and a little experimentation.

And the finished bread? Rye and wheat flour meet molasses, warm spices and currants for a loaf packed with flavor—and a story nearly 200 years in the making.

The countdown to the 2026 Jupiter Flights Balloon Festival at Conner Prairie is on! 🎈 September 11–13 will be here before we know it.

Plan ahead:

🎈 Morning tickets are still available! Even if evening tickets are sold out, you can still experience Jupiter Flights Saturday morning (9/12) and Sunday morning (9/13), when pilots take to the skies for exciting balloon competitions. Plus, your morning ticket includes daily admission to Conner Prairie!

🎈 Watch out for fake tickets. If you're considering purchasing tickets from an individual through social media, please use caution. Contact Conner Prairie if you have questions about whether tickets are legitimate.

🎈 Weather matters. Balloon flights are weather permitting, so follow Conner Prairie’s website and social media channels for the latest festival updates.

And while Jupiter Flights is our balloon festival today, hot air balloons have been part of the Conner Prairie story for decades. Long before Jupiter Flights—and even before our 1859 Balloon Voyage—balloons were taking to the skies here during events in the 1980s, ’90s and 2000s, including the May Balloon Classic in the mid-1990s.

🐑 It’s the final day of the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center—and Team Conner Prairie is putting their skills to the test! Our youth spinner teams are competing in the Sheep to Shawl Contest beginning at 9 a.m. in the Indiana Arts Building. 🧶

For more than 20 years, Conner Prairie youth have taken part in this tradition, thanks in large part to Sue Payne of Conner Prairie, who has helped generations of young people learn the skills and stories behind working with wool.

Come cheer on the next generation today, then visit Conner Prairie to discover more about spinning, weaving and the traditions they’re carrying forward.
