Hey what’s happening everyone? I hope you’re doing well. I took a trip down to Cincinnati OH, aka “The Nati”
to take in the sites. A city known for its love of sports and also its dedication to the arts and art community. Once again I spent time along the mighty Ohio River and brought home a few gems. I got excited about a piece I found and could hardly wait to work on another wall hanging piece, this time something of scale. Shout out to The Nati and I hope you enjoy✌🏾🦋

Hey everyone, so much has happened in our world since I last posted. In that time I hope you’ve found some time for yourself. Mid March, I took some time off to adventure down to Louisville Kentucky scavenging for driftwood and walk the ridge lines of the mighty Ohio River.
I spent most of the day traveling from bridge to bridge, and finished up at the Big Four Bridge, a converted railroad bridge with seasonal lighting offering walkers scenic treks over the Ohio River. I was not disappointed in my search for good pieces of driftwood. I included one such piece in this post.

What’s happening Fam and Friends? You know I heard recently a statement that resonated with me while reflecting on the state of the state.
“During difficult times, create something.”
So, I invite you. If something interest or inspires you, do what I do…
1. Choose something i.e., a project; an adventure; a piece of art; a poem; a service project or _____fill in the blank.
2. Stick with the idea that…”you have no idea.”
3. Let it flow, it’s the journey, not the destination.
4. Think in away…this thing chose me, I didn’t choose it.
5. Drop expectations. What you put into it, like a mirror, will reflect back to you.
6. When you’re done, choose the perspective that the reward is the feeling of being in the moment…,
not thinking about the difficult times happening around you✌🏾🦋

Hello friends, I thought I’d share a piece in my collection that has sparked interesting conversations by some that have seen it on display in my home and in exhibits. It definitely consumed my thoughts since its creation.

This piece evolved into a Yin/Yang representation for me. In this context, of course if you believe in such a thing, you have the freedom to interpret your own thoughts about perhaps your internal Yin/Yang, your interpersonal relationships with others and maybe even…a romantic relationship.
Defined as:
“Yin and Yang represent the ancient Chinese philosophical concept of dualism, where seemingly opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world. Yin (dark/black) symbolizes feminine, passive, cold, and receptive energy, while Yang (light/white) represents masculine, active, hot, and assertive energy. They exist in a dynamic, shifting balance, with each containing a small "seed" of the other.”

With that said, I play with the possibilities of displaying it horizontally on a table or bookshelf; or turning the piece vertically and hanging it on a wall in a cozy space. You get to decide, and depending on you mood, you can do both.

Hey family and friends, I’m grateful this morning and sharing my gratitude with you.
Last evening, Valentine’s Day I spent it doing what I love…being surrounded by art and Indy artists. The 38th annual Meet the Artist event was great and it was a privilege to exhibit some of my favorite pieces. However the story doesn’t start there, it started almost a year ago to date drifting (scavenging for driftwood) at the mighty Ohio River.
After collecting several pieces, I make choices of what to keep and what goes on the fire😅
A year later, one of these pieces was on display last evening on the top shelf, on the left. The wine bottle holder created some good conversation and sparked curiosity…and that’s the sweet spot I enjoy, connecting, imagining, and storytelling.

FB Fam, I think I owe you all an explanation. How does the driftwood process work for me? Well, it begins with “a man and his boat.”
I begin by choosing a location to paddle and comb the shore lines for the day. When I spot something that grabs my attention, my next thought is “how in the world am I going to get it back a shore?!”😅 Sometimes i substitute the word ”world” with an expletive. Nevertheless, I always figure it out.
Next, the practice of patience.
Cleaning, scraping out the muck, washing…scraping out more muck, you know…rinse & repeat until what I envisioned appears from the pile of wood shavings.
Then, the sanding by hand only. 120 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit…to the finest grit of 2500 grit sand paper. Yeah, this is where the time and patient part kicks in big time. The huge upside is the time it gives me to think, reflect, pray, and also create a bond and story around the piece itself🙏🏾
It’s a technique I learned from a group of driftwood artists on the northwest coast. More on that later…but finally the finishing stage begins. Depending on the wood, its color and composition, I make decisions…hopefully the right one. Or…I start over😂
