Two hundred and fifty years ago, the events that shaped the United States began unfolding. While many of those stories are told on a national stage, America’s story has always been written in local communities like Cabarrus County.
Every church, schoolhouse, family cemetery, courthouse, farm, neighborhood, and Main Street has contributed to our nation’s history. Here in Cabarrus County, our story includes Revolutionary-era roads, Black history, textile communities, veterans, preservation efforts, and the people whose lives have shaped this place across generations.
As Executive Director of Historic Cabarrus Association and Chair of Cabarrus County’s America 250 Committee, I believe this anniversary is about more than looking back. It is an opportunity to preserve a fuller history and ensure the stories we pass on represent all who have called Cabarrus County home.
Historic Cabarrus Association looks forward to continuing to partner with our neighbors, museums, libraries, schools, churches, municipalities, historical organizations, and community members to tell the many stories that make our county unique.
As we celebrate Independence Day, I hope you will find time to visit a historic place, ask a family member to share a story, and discover something new about the community you call home. America’s story begins right here in Cabarrus County.
