Becky Bullerwill be performing at the Montgomery Museum's upcoming Sounds of Appalachia concert, so make sure to not miss it! Join our special Author Book Signing & Meeting Event with Kathleen Wilson on Thursday, September 24 from 5-7pm at the Montgomery Museum!

Wilson's debut novel, The Fabric of Wishful Thinking, is a richly researched portrait of 1910 rural Appalachia, written by an author with deep expertise in Appalachian history, craft, and culture.

Along with its compelling story, Wilson's book offers a rare look inside early Southern textile mill culture. The Fabric of Wishful Thinking is a powerful story about families and the fractures that result from divided loyalties.

Kathleen Wilson is an Honorary Fellow at Virginia Humanities, Charlottesville, Virginia. Her work in the field of Appalachian craft for more than three decades has been recognized in the publication of countless articles, four books, and the history of the Southern Industrial Educational Association, 1905-1926, a digital resource. She has given scores of public speeches and lectures at professional conferences and public meetings in the United States and abroad, seeking new opportunities to share Appalachian cultural traditions with a wide audience.

Join us for Paint Night where YOU design your painting. This promises to be our most creative Paint Night yet! We will channel Matisse’s iconic style — expressive color, simplified forms, and flat decorative patterns. Bring your creativity and a few of your favorite brushes — we’ll provide the rest!

Are you hungry for "A Quick Bite of History"? Come and see the Montgomery Museum's exhibit on this history of taverns, diners, and lunchcounters!

"A Quick Bite of History" examines the social history of food and dining in Southwest Virginia and Appalachia. From community meal gatherings, taverns, hotels, lunchcounters, and diners, food has always been a vital part of community culture.

Come see historic photographs, artifacts, and maybe even help us fill in the blanks surrounding local restaurant history.

On Thursday, September 17, from 5 - 7pm, the Montgomery Museum will be holding an opening reception for our two new exhibits: Dianne Gillis-Robinson's art exhibit and the Museum's "A Quick Bite of History" exhibit on diners and lunchcounters.

Free refreshments and food will be provided - and it'll be specially themed towards lunchcounters! Come have a fresh grilled cheese sandwich, chicken salad, and ice cream floats.

The reception will be located at the Montgomery Museum's location at 4 East Main Street, Christiansburg.

Don't forget about Tai Chi Gung in the Museum! This class is offered every Friday at 9 AM.

Gentle physical movements of this practice promote balance, flexibility, and stress reduction. Join local artist, photographer, and Tai Chi Gung practitioner, Jean Galloway as she leads you through warm-ups and standing exercises in the museum lobby. All fees from this class benefit the Museum.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothing! $5 for Museum Members, $10 for non-members. 18+ participants only.

Today is National Dog Day! Let's celebrate pups with some of our historic photographs - featuring the loyal pooches themselves.

A new art exhibit is coming soon - get ready for "Wood, Water and Stone: The Language of Landscapes" by Dianne Gillis-Robinson!

Dianne Gillis-Robinson is largely self-taught, but also studied primarily at Art League Houston under noted artist, Laura Spector. Dianne is also a popular workshop teacher whose paintings sell internationally. Because her work is representational, she finds it rewarding when a painting reflects an experience or memory for the collector.

Come meet the artist at the opening reception of this exhibit! It will be on Thursday, September 17 from 5 - 7pm. Refreshments will be provided!
