Project Onward’s mission: CREATE | CONNECT | INSPIRE CHANGE

• To provide artists with disabilities the opportunity to create their work in a safe, supportive studio environment, with access to work space, materials, and professional guidance;
• To connect artists with disabilities with the arts community and the general public, through the professional exhibition and sale of their work, and through public programs designed to foster audience participation;
• To inspire change by using art to promote empathy and reduce the stigma of mental illness and developmental disabilities; to improve the self-image of artists through the social and economic value of their work; and to cultivate new audiences in the art market by increasing awareness of, and demand for, artwork created by people with disabilities.

Get ready for a night that's gonna leave a mark! Join us at Project Onward on Friday, October 16 from 5:00PM-10:00PM for a very special celebration of Forever Yours, featuring artwork by Project Onward artists inspired by the timeless art of tattooing.⁠

The night gets even more exciting as live tattoo artists from join us in the studio, bringing designs from the exhibition to life and offering tattoos inspired by the artwork on the walls. All tattoo proceeds will be donated to Project Onward. See the original flash sheets, check out the artists’ unique takes on tattoo culture, and experience the creative process up close.⁠

Last Friday we welcomed delegates from Osaka, Japan, to Project Onward as part of the Chicago-Osaka Sister City Social Service Exchange ( )!⁠

The visiting group included social work professionals, some of whom work in the disability field. Their visit offered a great opportunity to share our work, learn from one another, and have some fun through making paper cranes.⁠
⁠
Together with our artists, the delegates took part in a paper crane-making workshop inspired by the Cranes for Peace project, creating a space for conversation and cultural exchange. We also shared our artists work and had some time to talk about our international collaboration with our friends in Osaka at Atelier Corners ( ) from a few months ago.⁠

Thank you to the Osaka Social Services Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International for including Project Onward in this exchange and for helping build connections between our communities across the world!⁠

Our opening of Forever Yours was a blast last Friday! We want to give a huge thank you to the fine folks of Decoraters Tattoo for creating the flash mural in our gallery. Here's a look at some select pieces from the show alongside the timelapse of the mural getting painted.⁠

If you missed the opening don't fret! Next month on October 16th from 5-10PM, Decorators will be in the gallery again, set up and ready to tattoo these works from our artists. More details coming soon!⁠
