"Our work is not about thinking, it's a bout feeling. When we paint, something flowing there, you just have to feel it. It's like Tai Chi. It doesn't look powerful, but the power is there."

(𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟏) The Zhou Brothers finished a large series of paintings, From Heaven to Earth, which helped define their own artistic expressions in painting. Their work started catching the attention from many around them.

In honor of 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, we celebrate Asian-American artists and their respectable achievements and lasting contributions to the art world. The Zhou Brothers, world renowned Chinese-American contemporary artists, have been painting collaboratively together on the same canvas for over 45 years from 1973 to today. Influenced by their life journeys, their unique style tells a story of revolution, art, and the pursuit of their dreams.

The Acapulco – Manila Galleon Trade (1570-1815)
“The languages spoken on the trip to Acapulco were Spanish and Tagalog. The languages spoken on the trip back to Manila were Spanish and Nahuatl. The ships usually laid over at Acapulco for three months, allowing the Filipino crew to disperse and go to other towns of Mexico where they usually got married to local girls. The Filipino crews were usually replaced by Mexicans, usually Nahuatl—Indians and Mexican creoles (Spaniards born in Mexico), and mestizos of Spanish and Mexican parentage. There are about a thousand Nahuatl words spoken in the Philippines today, words such as tianggui (weekly fair), palenque(market), zacate (grass fodder for horses), zapote (a kind of fruit). There are also many Filipino words in the Mexican language, such as palapa (coconut leaves), tuba (coconut sap juice), ylang ylang (a variety of fragrant flower), mangga (mango).”

Maria Cristina Barron Soto, scholar, professor, and historian. (This study by Prof. Barron Soto was quoted from the book Manila Men In The New World by Floro L Mercene; Published by The University of The Philippines Press.

the showroom: disassembly of ourselves

Life may be a communication between the very end of simplicity and the deepest complexity. Everything is ironical, and life is a process of finding ourselves in between. Some may call it hypocrisy, but we appreciate the effort and ability to disassemble our subconscious in preach of the truth in ourselves. Enjoy the cold air of a show and the intimacy of our room, yet find yourselves within.
And our Mestre can’t go to a party and NOT DANCE! Doesn’t matter that we are in a roomful of Funders. Many thanks to the Zhou B Art Center for your hospitality.
