Antonio Reyes was only 16 or 17 years old when prosecutors say he carried out a series of killings on Chicagoβs Southwest Side in 2020. Reyes was reportedly known by the nickname βRedrum,β which is βmurderβ spelled backwards. Authorities have accused him of murdering six people and attempting to kill several others during a period lasting roughly nine months. The six people Reyes is accused of killing are Francisco Mangana, Claudio Cossio, Damian Duran, Luis Davalos-Garcia, Jose Martinez and Justin Gonzalez. Several of the victims were reportedly sitting in or near their vehicles when they were attacked. In one disturbing case, Martinez was with his three young children when prosecutors allege Reyes opened fire.
One of the biggest pieces of evidence linking the cases together was ballistics. Investigators recovered a .40-caliber handgun in 2020 and authorities say fi****ms evidence helped connect multiple shootings that had originally appeared unrelated. Detectives also examined social media, messages and other digital evidence. Prosecutors claim Reyes spoke about the killings with people he knew and allegedly bragged about some of the shootings afterward. Some of the allegations that have since surfaced in court are even more disturbing. Prosecutors claim Reyes told people that he enjoyed killing and would sometimes return to crime scenes afterward. He has also been accused of recording crime scenes, damaging, or desecrating memorials left for victims. Reyes was originally arrested in connection with the June 2020 murder of Luis Davalos-Garcia, but investigators continued looking into other unsolved shootings. Years later, in February 2025, Chicago police announced that Reyes had been charged with five additional murders, bringing the total number of alleged victims to six. The most shocking part of the case may be his age. If prosecutors prove their case, Reyes would've been just 16 or 17 when these killings occurred. Antonio Reyes has pleaded not guilty.
