Fall pond cleanup is happening now! Spending all day in pond water is a lot more enjoyable when you’re surrounded by gorgeous fall colors.

Nature’s way of saying, “Yes, it’s dirty work… but at least the view is pretty!”

FAT BEAR WEEK CHAMPION - Danika Lesniak

For my acceptance speech, I'd like to start off by thanking my coworkers who made participating in Fat Bear Week a reality, thank you to the coworkers who suck at choosing bears so that I could climb to the top, and thank you to Lanna for forfeiting the win. 3 years ago, I participated in my first Fat Bear Week and lost horribly and swore to myself I'd never let that happen again. And so I trained hard, learned the bears, dipped my toes in some rivers, crawled around in nature on all fours, and looked at pictures of salmon until I felt like I was a resident of Katmai National Park & Preserve. 32 Chunk led me to victory last year and 89 backpack this year. I have no idea how I have won 2 years in a row, so I am becoming convinced that I am connected to these fat bears VIA wavelength and spirit and being chunky. If I win again next year, we can assume that my theory is true and I will donate myself to science.

I may not look like a traditional fat bear because I am a human being, but I hope that with my grand prize of "Bear Onesie" that one day I will have my own special honorary spot on the Fat Bear Week bracket and can win the crown. I petition for my name to be 73 Shmanika and to come up with a really good sob story.

Anyway, this is fueled by an Enlighten Mint Yerba Mate energy drink and some seriously mediocre Progresso Corn Chowder that I begrudgingly ate for lunch, so I may be losing it a little.

I digress... Thank you again to everyone, and may the bears sleep peacefully this winter. explore.org

You may notice a big change in the Rotary Plazas!

As we build the EAT Garden and prepare to move vegetable production into the new space, we’re transitioning the 1800s Garden back to wheat.

We’ve removed the fence and cleared out the plants that have finished for the season. It’s a big change to see, but it’s an exciting step as we prepare the space for its next chapter!
