Today (September 26, 2026) is the final day of our 2026 Summer Season, and we are grateful to have reached the end of our seventh season as a State Historic Site! Thank you to every visitor who made the journey to visit the site, and we thank all future visitors who have us noted for future summertime adventures. It is only through your ceaseless support that we are able to continue sharing this remarkable piece of history. After today, Quebec 01 will be closed until May 2027.
We wanted to say "See you later!" with a couple more historic photos. This first photo of three missile shells is undated, but they still stand at attention to this day, greeting visitors to F.E. Warren Air Force Base and commuters along Cheyenne's piece of the I-25. The largest of the three is the Peacekeeper missile shell in the forefront, followed by the Minuteman III missile shell, and then the Minuteman I missile shell.
The duo of photos dates back to June 12, 1964, which was a celebratory summer for F.E. Warren AFB and the 90th Missile Wing. To quote the photo's description: "The day marked the end of construction of 200 silo launcher facilities and 20 launch control centers," and "After working two years in southeastern Wyoming, western Nebraska, and northern Colorado, the prime construction contractor, Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc., and Associates completed its phase of the activation project three months ahead of contract schedule. Passing a symbolic key signifying completion of construction for the last facility and of the entire 90th Strategic Missile Wing['s] Minuteman facilities." It is incredible to consider that Quebec 01 was only two years old when this achievement happened (as our site was built in 1962), and that the "Mighty Ninety" was entirely focused on the Minuteman I missile system at the time!
Thank you, again, for a wonderful summer season. We hope to next May! 😎
