THIS WEEK — FREE FOR ALL: The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library is excited to participate in this year’s Free for All: Linn County Arts & Culture Week, an initiative from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.

THE DETAILS —
OCTOBER 21: Free admission for seniors to enjoy everything NCSML has to offer. PLUS join one of the guided tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Shop for a gift with special 15% discount in our Museum Store!

OCTOBER 22: Free sound meditation for you to relax to the calming sounds of crystal singing bowls, chimes, and gongs with Janel from Sacred Sound Meditation! Free event preceded by an exclusive free entry to the galleries. Pre-registration required (see link in comments), doors open at 4:30 p.m.

OCTOBER 24: Family Free Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. let your child’s creativity shine on Inspiration Place with chalk art! Then head inside to explore the exhibits (families that include a high school-aged child or younger are free), catch a movie featuring Krtek — the beloved animated character Little Mole — or get creative with hands-on activities in our classroom. There’s something for curious minds and creative kids of all ages!

🇨🇿 Věděli jste, že Národní české a slovenské muzeum a knihovna působí v Cedar Rapids ve státě Iowa již více než 50 let? V roce 2024 tato instituce nechala před svou budovou postavit orloj podobný tomu v Praze. Přijďte se dozvědět, čí to byl nápad, kdo pomáhal při jeho stavbě a kolik tato velkolepá stavba stála. Dozvíte se také, co má s orlojem společného československý vlkodav a proč tančící postavy nejsou apoštolové.

Is Prague haunted? Join Michele Patrick, author of Haunted Prague: Stories of Spirits, Sorcerers, and the Supernatural, at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library for a photo-filled journey through Golden Prague, exploring the city’s incredible beauty while discovering its magic and mystery through supernatural tales such as the Headless Horseman, the Golem, and the Ghostly Organist.

Two opportunities to join: Friday October 16 at 6 p.m. with a special free performance by The Swampland Jewels, and Saturday, October 17 at 1 p.m.
