Thank you to Indiana Humanities and National Endowment for the Humanities for awarding us a $5,000 American Rescue Plan Operating Support Grant! We are using the funds to support administrative expenses so that we can continue to present the relevance of Cedar Lake history and make the 1920s Come Alive on the Lake at The Museum at Lassen's Resort πŸ₯°

We’re excited to announce that we’ve awarded nearly $850,000 to 78 humanities organizations across Indiana – the largest grant pool in our history! As we celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month during October, we recognize and celebrate the vital role that the humanities have played in helping Hoosier communities both small and large, rural and urban, recover from the pandemic.

These grants are made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and the Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan (SHARP) initiative.

Join us during #NAHM21 as we celebrate the enrichment the humanities bring to our communities. To see the full list of grantees, visit: bit.ly/3poBBrh

Escape to the Past

The Cedar Lake Historical Association (CLHA) provides an escape to the past for visitors and residents through our unique programs, special events, and history museum on the shores of Cedar Lake, Indiana.

CLHA takes a 3-part approach to executing its mission by focusing on history, recreation, and education. Our vision is to become an indispensable educational entity providing physical and intellectual access to museum exhibitions and research materials and a vital and energetic gathering place where tourists of all generations renew fond memories and create new ones.

The Lassen Resort was well known in the region for its hotel, restaurant built out over the lake, and its dance pavilion featuring live band performances. The Lassen family used the unique building as a hotel until shortly after World War II. The historic building was later sold to the Lake Region Christian Assembly and used as a church camp. The 20-acre property, including the hotel, was purchased by the Town of Cedar Lake from the Assembly for use as the Town Complex. When it became evident town officials were considering tearing down the decaying hotel, the Cedar Lake Historical Association, Inc. was formed and rallied to save the structure. In 1981 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Association now operates the old Lassen Hotel as a museum.

Does anyone know of the old log cabin that is still standing on the east side of the lake? It is in the middle of the homes over there just 2 blocks or so off of the lake. What street is it on? I’ve seen it before and wanted to show my children, (were learning about history of Cedar Lake) I just can’t remember what street it’s on... thanks! 😁
