Join our Docent team and help bring the magic of Sloss Furnaces to life!

As a Docent, you'll guide students through Birmingham's history, sharing the stories of why Birmingham was built, how iron was made, and the workers who made it all happen. Whether you're a history buff or just want to give back to the community, becoming a Sloss Docent is both fun and educational.

No experience is required, we'll train you on how to give tours.

To sign up or for more information, email Ty Malugani at [email protected].

Preservation is a critical part of our work at Sloss Furnaces. Preservation work never ends and constantly evolves as new challenges appear each day. Fortunately, new preservation technologies and practices are also improving. We do not shy away from the challenge, but we push forward because preserving Sloss is preserving the story of why Birmingham exists, how it made iron, and the workers who made it all possible.

THANK YOU to everyone that came out to Under the Lights! We were overwhelmed at the support this event received and cannot wait to do it again!

We welcomed over 500 people, poured 70 aluminum tiles (share your art with us!), and gave four tours of the site to a total of 160 people!

Under the Lights was made possible with the help of our amazing sponsors: LumenPulse, Regions Bank, AMA Lighting, and Yellowhammer Creative, and with generous support from Alabama Peanut Company and Bud’s Best Cookies. Thank you!

RAIN OR SHINE!

Thanks to the 1,000 people that registered for Under the Lights. Weather is a little uncertain for Thursday night but the show goes on. Fortunately, the event will be under the First Avenue Viaduct, so plan to join us for an exciting celebration of the extraordinary new lights at Sloss Furnaces!

We want to thank the Sponsors that made this event possible: LumenPulse, AMA Lighting and Regions Bank. We appreciate your support of Sloss Furnaces and the entire community!
