Inspiring Life-Long Curiosity

Welcome to Port Discovery Children’s Museum, ranked among the top 12 children’s museums in the United States! (Forbes) Port Discovery offers three floors of interactive, educational exhibits and ever-changing drop-in programs and special events for children ages birth through 10.

Children of all ages can dream big, take risks, learn and play in our hands-on exhibits. Get healthy and fit in Kick It Up!. Splish splash in Wonders of Water. Shop and pump gas at the Royal Farms Convenience Store and Fill’er Up Station. Cook and serve food in Tiny’s Diner. Decipher hieroglyphics and find clues that will lead you to a pharaoh's lost tomb in Adventure Expeditions. We feature areas for our youngest visitors, too - Toddlers can walk and crawl through Tot Trails, and little ones can go on a imaginative journey in our magical Oasis. With so many areas to climb and explore, be sure to wear closed toe, flat soled shoes and comfortable clothes so you can enjoy a fun and safe learning experience through the adventure of play!

Port Discovery is a non-profit Children’s Museum, so each dollar that you spend on General Admission to the Museum helps support our mission to provide every child with access to purposeful play, as well as to take our programs and exhibits out into schools, Judy Centers, Head Starts, libraries and other locations in the community!

Programs and exhibits at Port Discovery are made possible in part by the Citizens of Baltimore County and by the Howard County Arts Council through a grant from Howard County Government.

Hope you extend memberships to accommodate the shut down. Been 6 weeks
If we have a membership do we still need to purchase noon time new year tickets?
Parking rates are a bit ridiculous for the garage even with the $5 off you would think better parking rates would be a part of our membership plan.
Will you be open on Thanksgiving? If so whats the hours? On your website under the calendar it says yes but on the "planned visit current hours" it says closed.
This day last year.... we love the staff at Port Discovery Children's Museum
Are you allowed to use a stroller inside?
Can’t wait to visit throughout the winter: https://www.facebook.com/1738411083067744/posts/2220543261521188/

Hi! Do you still offer free entry for teachers?

I was the founder and owner/operator of The New Mark of Excellence School, Inc. and Camp Numeka. The school and camp operated for 20 years from 1994 until 2014. We, too, were a non-profit organization. We scheduled and took field trips to Port Discovery during the school year as well as during summer camp. I am writing this post in the hope that your organization will take every necessary precaution to keep the children enrolled in your summer camp program safe at all times. I was parked next to an unmarked blue van at the Beltway Plaza Shopping Center this morning. I observed 2 yellow school buses parked in front of the Horizon Movie Theater. Minutes after parking, I observed an extremely large group of children emerge from the theater and walk quite orderly to the 2 buses. I then saw another large group proceed to the van next to which I was parked- there were at least 30 children packed onto that van, all of whom were wearing Camp Discovery tee-shirts. There was a young African American male driving the van; he was extremely polite and made sure that the children did not bang the van door into my car. My issue is that the van was overloaded; these children were an overflow from the buses. They could not use the seat belts on the van because they were at least four to a seat. One of the first things I learned as the owner of a Maryland State Department of Education non-public school and licensed summer program was the Md. Department of Transportation laws about the transportation of children. Safety must always be a business owner's priority. It becomes too late after a tragedy or accident to wish we had obeyed the law governing how to transport children. I observed more than overcrowding. I did not take pictures nor post my comments on my page; it was not my intent to embarrass Port Discovery. I love the museum and the programs it has for the children of Baltimore. Please, retrain your camp director. There needed to be an additional bus for your overflow. Was it really worth taking a chance on the children's safe transport to save a few dollars. Is the camp free? Even if it is, your costs for lawsuits would far exceed the cost of an additional bus. Not anonymous- Beverly Y. Davis, Principal- The New Mark of Excellence School, Inc. and Camp Numeka
