Pain is temporary, MAP is forever… 🖊️💪 As we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Maryland Art Place, our staff has agreed to get matching MAP tattoos if we reach our anniversary donation goal of $45,000!

Upcoming exhibition Natural Herstories: FINAL Sneak Peek! 🌊🌳

We are incredibly excited to highlight artists Laura Amussen, Maria Lux, and Leslie Shellow as participants in our upcoming show, opening Sept. 10th during Bromo Art Walk!

“Natural Herstories” explores womxn artists’ complex relationships with the natural world, with a particular focus on artists who employ nature as an act of reclamation against colonialist narratives within their work.

Observation is key. These three artists use their perception of nature and ecosystems to create cross-media works that respond to human interaction within the environment today. Check out more of their work below!

We are incredibly excited to highlight artists Divya Anantharaman, Shasta Donegan, and Ellen Jewett as participants in our upcoming show, opening Sept. 10th during Bromo Art Walk!

“Natural Herstories” explores womxn artists’ complex relationships with the natural world, with a particular focus on artists who employ nature as an act of reclamation against colonialist narratives within their work.

Via the art of taxidermy, Divya and Shasta create ethical works that revive the dead; Ellen transforms this life into something nostolgic, personal, and emotionally familiar. Check out more of their work below!

Tonight! Walk + Talk Tour and Mentor Mixer! Every summer MAP makes selections from area college thesis shows to present in our Annual Young Blood Exhibition. Join us this evening for a casual tour and artist talk and hear from our artists directly. 6-8pm. 218 West Saratoga Street between Park & Howard Streets. Parking is free after 6pm.

To close out our 17th annual Young Blood program, we are hosting a Walk + Talk Tour and Mentor Mixer IN TWO DAYS, Friday, August 21, from 6 to 8 PM at MAP! 🖼️
We hope you join us to connect emergent artists with peers, mentors, professors or artists who inspire, support or connect with their work. This professional development opportunity gives artists the chance to host an informal artist talk/studio visit to gain insight, invite critique or perspective surrounding their work. Each artist will host a 10 to 15 minute artist talk to discuss their work and answer any audience questions. We look forward to celebrating our exhibiting artists!!

DON'T MISS OUT: Young Blood Revisited, our MICA Bicentennial show, is still on view until the END OF THIS WEEK, Saturday, August 22! Check it out at MAP on Tuesdays-Saturdays between 12pm-4pm🤩

As part of MICA’s 200th Anniversary, MAP will proudly be presenting new works created by MICA alumni who had previously exhibited in Youngblood. Each year following graduation, Maryland Art Place’s (MAP’s) Executive Leadership and Program Advisory Committee (PAC) curates Young Blood, an annual exhibition of works by recent Baltimore-area Masters of Fine Art graduates.

Since 2008, Young Blood has showcased recent MFA graduates from Baltimore-area institutions, bringing together artists from diverse programs to exhibit work from their thesis projects. The exhibition serves as an important platform for emerging artists, providing visibility, critical engagement, and professional recognition. Over the past 18 years, Young Blood has featured 124 artists from institutions including MICA, UMBC, Towson University, the University of Maryland, and Goucher College. Join us on Thursday, July 9, to celebrate a selection of MICA alumni whose work has been part of this longstanding program.
