So my current painting is on hold as I work on a super rad commission & work all my other jobs, but meanwhile we had a wonderful final class last night in Color Theory. It was an absolute pleasure. 🥹

It's been a bit since I've worked on a piece with every spare few hours I can wring from each day. This painting is what I am up to if not at work. I should have gone to sleep hours ago. Totally. Worth it.

There's a lot to do still on this one! I'm excited to see where it goes.

What do you think is back there? What's this the precipice too? We are teetering on the edge of a new world and it will be what we make of it, what we allow, what we work for, what we can imagine when we imagine it as something better.

Would you want something like this as a mural? Shout at me, this 24 x 36" canvas isn't big enough. It needs to be bigger

It's time for my favorite game, "Replace the Brush"! This is a synthetic version of the game, and the results are the same as hog hair bristle brushes, a little less dramatic.

I'm home now from an epic trip to New England and NYC. I have a lot of photos and ideas kicking around in my head and my first visit to Boston was incredible. I'm happy to be home but seeing the ocean in Maine was *a thing*. 😍 From Central Park to Boston to a farm in NH while the sky was yellow and smokey, to The Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, that was quite the adventure. Here's some of my favorite photos.

There are still spots open in my Thursday morning Master Copy class at the Dougherty Art Center!

This is a copy I made in college of Joan Brown's "Self Portrait with Fur Hat" from 1972. It was made so early in my painting journey I photographed it myself so it's not a perfect documentation, but I made this piece at 36 x 48''. It's large. I learned SO much from this study, and I truly believe copying the work of an artist who has solved certain problems in painting already is a fantastic way to learn.

Come learn with me! Thursdays 10am-1pm, June 11th - July 2nd. You can register online today or call the front desk at the DAC to register over the phone if the website deadline has passed, up until the day before the class starts.

A POV shot of the controlled chaos of my studio. My happy place. Paintings are stacked against the wall, I'm sitting for this commission with my palette on my lap and what I'm not showing is piles of brushes and paints. 😆

This space is sacred, I'm taking a moment to intentionally sit & love it. I'm about to downsize again, so while that's intimidating considering what my studio holds, it's also exciting because new spaces present new opportunities to cut out more of what does not serve & to stop holding onto excessive materials.
