Jenn Hassin Studios Contemporary Fine Art -- created & crafted in Austin, Texas WHO AM I? Jenn Hassin is a Texas born artist and currently resides in Austin, Texas. WHY DO I CREATE?

She graduated with a degree in Studio Art in 2012 from Saint Edward's University. Jenn Hassin currently works out of her studio at Canopy where she creates conceptual pieces with every intention of making a difference through her art. Her art ranges from 2D drawings to sculptural works that are through a 2D lens. Process, time and labor are all essential to creating her detailed pieces. My art is

an ever-developing autobiography. The complete story of my life is a script to be molded, sculpted, painted, drawn and hammered into. My personal journey layers itself within my detailed works to reassert the importance I put on time and labor for my art. We all work through tragedies and my art is an exploration through the voice of the distressed groups or a tragedy I seek to represent. Creating beauty on a one-to-one ratio is important to my art in that it emphasizes the experience of the individual. Pretty portrait or not, we each exist more honestly in our own raw materials. As I draw inked lines and dots over a large splash of color, it is as if I am the cartographer, mapping out the details of tragedy. This leads to the ache in my wrist, that detailed stress is what keeps the fire and pressure of creating essential. The fissures from the lines and the dots, they make space for my audience to deal in darkness. When I can make beauty out of these materials, these raw pieces, I feel my conceptual art is truly able to expand and challenge its audience.

I’m so excited to share Project Raha, an exhibition at Affirmation Arts in NYC and an online auction, powered by Artsy, going live this week. Part of the work is art made collectively in Texas at retreats with the Afghan Female Tactical Platoon, Sisters of Service, Command Purpose and myself. After the retreats, I made a body of work in response to my time with these incredible veteran women. We transformed US and Afghan military uniforms, ceremonial clothing, items tied to friends and family lost, clothing worn on C-17’s while evacuating and hijabs that were both pulped and embedded.

Join us for the opening of Project Raha, Nov. 2nd from 6pm-9pm at 415 West 13th Street, 8th Floor, New York, New York 10014.

Supported by The Command Purpose Foundation to benefit Sisters of Service.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve shared any news on my Facebook art profile. So first off, Hi! I’ve graduated from Columbia University with my MFA, had another baby (that makes 3) and we’ve made our way back to Texas. I’ve got a solo show at Ivester Contemporary currently in Austin, Texas. The work is all new and some fresh ideas are on the wall. The gallery has linked up the work to Artsy and below you can see some of the details of the show. Pulp Alchemy is on view until October 15th.

Ivester Contemporary is proud to present, Pulp Alchemy, a solo exhibition of new work by Jenn Hassin. This exhibition is the artist’s first exhibition of new work since completing her MFA at Columbia University.
