The Lie of the Land
Artist Focus: Shane Ng
This work presents a series of windmills formed from thin, intricately crafted porcelain. Activated by a passing breeze, the windmills respond with a gentle, hesitant spin that feels playful and candid.
Beneath this lightness lies a quieter tension. Porcelain, often associated with durability and refinement, is rendered vulnerable to repetition and time. Every breeze becomes a subtle force of erosion, contributing to gradual wear and fatigue. The work weathers not through spectacle, but through accumulation by bearing the marks of touch, air, and time. It slowly withers away by spinning and responding to the elements presented, suggesting that destruction is often slow, tender, and almost invisible, unfolding within moments of being, care, and habit.
