Our inaugural Singapore Documentary Festival is calling for photography project submissions to be part of a group exhibition in April 2027.

Documentary has long shaped how we understand the world, but the right to bear witness has never been equally held, and today, anyone with a camera can claim it. We’re looking for Southeast Asian photographers and visual artists working in still images, with a documentary project on contemporary social issues situated within the region — one that reflects the preoccupations of local communities and celebrates diverse regional talent.

Supported by the Truth Seeker Foundation, one project will receive a SGD 5,000 prize, and five runner-ups will each receive SGD 1,000.

Submissions close 30 Sep 2026, 11.59pm SGT. Visit https://sgdf.objectifs.com.sg/photography-open-call for more details.

Tan Lip Seng's love for photography reaches beyond his sons. It's carried into a third generation, through his grandsons. Inspired by this, we're holding an intergenerational workshop in conjunction with his ongoing exhibition, Tan Lip Seng: A Life in Colour.

Open to adults and children/youths aged 6 to 18, this workshop invites participants to explore photography together. Through a guided outdoor shoot and hands-on activities, discover how perspective, composition, and observation can turn everyday moments into lasting memories. Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or simply looking to spend meaningful time with loved ones, it's an afternoon of creativity, play, and connection.

Join us for the workshop on Saturday, 5 Sep 2026, 2-4pm, by registering at https://intergenerational-workshop.peatix.com. Tan Lip Seng: A Life in Colour runs till 27 Sep.

This is the final call to apply for the Young Photographers’ Mentorship Programme (YPMP) 2026. Over three weeks, selected participants will work on a personal project while learning to build a photographic practice, from conceptual development and storytelling to navigating the professional and ethical realities of the arts. Guided by some of Singapore’s leading visual storytellers through mentorship and group critique, the programme culminates in a work-in-progress presentation at Objectifs, shared with peers, industry professionals, and the public.

Open to Singapore-based photographers aged 18 to 24 years old. Applications close 31 August. Submit at our website.

Tan Lip Seng’s son once said that the family pictures his father insisted on taking now feel priceless. This upcoming intergenerational workshop, held in conjunction with Tan Lip Seng: A Life in Colour, invites adults and their children or youths (aged 6 to 18) to spend an afternoon making those kinds of memories together 💭

Led by lens-based artist and educator Deanna Ng, the session opens with a curator’s tour through the exhibition before moving into the basics of camera handling, perspective, and composition. Participants then put what they’ve learned into practice during a guided photography walk along Waterloo Street, turning an ordinary outing into a shared act of looking and noticing.

📅 Sat 5 Sep 2026, 2-4pm

In his final years, veteran photographer Tan Lip Seng kept a routine most of us would find hard to sustain. Waking before dawn, camera in hand, to photograph the sunrise over the reservoirs near his home.

His sons, Dr Tan Eng Loy and Dr Tan Eng Kien, speak about this body of work in the video below: photographs made recently, never before exhibited or published, forming part of a larger collection their father was still hoping to show in full. Developed in close collaboration with the family, a new photobook launched alongside the exhibition brings this unseen chapter of his practice into public view for the first time.

Tan Lip Seng: A Life In Colour is on view at Objectifs till 27 September. Visit https://www.objectifs.com.sg/tan-lip-seng-colour for more on the exhibition and photobook.

Did you know a papaya tree grows quietly in the backyard of Objectifs? 🌳

This month, it’s what Jesstine loves — not just the tree, but the community that grew around it: artists turned consultants, colleagues turned super tasters. As Assistant Manager for our Exhibitions & Programmes, Jesstine spends her days behind the scenes making our shows come together, but this small, ongoing harvest has become its own quiet project, one that’s mirrored her own growth here at Objectifs.

Come by, and you might catch birds resting in its branches, or the fruit slowly ripening in the sun. A small, living thing growing alongside us, as our community grows alongside it ☀️

Huijun Lu moves between roles the way her practice moves between mediums — as an artist, and as the curator behind our recent exhibition, entanglements. Ask her about that duality and she’ll tell you it comes down to imagining ourselves as organisms in an environment, building interdependent networks to sustain an evolving ecosystem.

It’s a fitting lens for a show built on exactly that premise. Swipe through for her thoughts on space, artist-curator relationships, and what it means to meet artists where they are.

Her night-time field recording workshop on 22 Aug is fully booked, but there’s more to explore. Visit our website for the rest of entanglements’ programme, including talks and workshops running through to 30 Aug: https://www.objectifs.com.sg/entanglements

We made a photobook! Swipe through to see the making of Tan Lip Seng: A Life in Colour, developed in close collaboration with the artist’s family, gathering over 70 photographs by the late Cultural Medallion recipient. It brings together his iconic colour derivative montages with never-before-seen images from the final moments of his life, a fitting homage to a lifetime spent chasing the perfect moment.

The photobook accompanies Tan Lip Seng’s retrospective exhibition, on now at Objectifs Chapel till 27 September. A limited edition tote bag is also available to mark the occasion.

Grab the photo book at our Objectifs store, available both in-store and online: https://www.objectifs.com.sg/product/tan-lip-seng-a-life-in-colour. From now till 27 Sep, the photobook is priced at S$50 (U.P. S$68), and a bundle with tote bag is priced at S$65.
