In this video, artist Mr Victor Ang shares the inspiration behind two works from his Yin Yang Calligraphy series: 岁月静好 and 四季平安 — phrases expressing wishes of peace, harmony, and well-being for everyone.

In this ongoing series, Victor Ang reimagines traditional Chinese calligraphy through a contemporary lens. While two characters are written in full, the remaining characters are defined only by their inked outlines — a distinctive visual approach that explores the evolution and modern interpretation of this historical art form.

Enjoy Victor Ang’s ongoing solo exhibition at Bras Basah Complex, Level 3, Singapore 180231, until 31 May 2026. We are open on weekends from 11:30am to 7pm.

In this short video, artist Victor Ang shares the inspiration behind his calligraphy wood carvings featuring the words “远见” (Vision), “和平” (Peace), and “诚信” (Integrity). These values were inspired by his admiration for Lee Kuan Yew and the lasting impression the late statesman left on Singapore.

The video also offers a glimpse into the intricate creative process behind these delicate carvings on thin wooden boards, revealing the craftsmanship embedded within each piece.

This unique series reflects Victor Ang’s efforts to reimagine traditional calligraphy through contemporary forms and materials. By pushing beyond conventional perceptions of calligraphy, he hopes to inspire a renewed appreciation for this timeless art form, ensuring its continued growth for generations to come.

This series is currently featured in Victor Ang’s solo exhibition 一点点醉. The event is held at at Bras Basah Complex, Level 3, Singapore 180321 and runs until 31 May 2026. Our gallery is open from 11:30am to 7:00pm on weekends. See you soon! 👋🏼
