Showcasing the talents of Singapore artists is a priority for the gallery. This is achieved through the organization of numerous solo or group exhibitions as well as participating in art fairs both locally and abroad. Also, through video productions we aim to transcend the spacial restrictions that come with traditional exhibitions and share the stories of these artists with all art lovers.

Marvin recently came by our gallery with his newly completed horizontal painting showing an impressive rendition of Singapore’s cityscape.

Marvin had a candid conversation with artists Victor Ang and Terence Teo that afternoon, exchanging thoughts on the painting. It is these spontaneous conversations and exchanges of ideas that keep the art in our gallery meaningful, ever evolving and interesting.

We are also happy to share that this new painting by Marvin was eventually framed for its new owner!

For Zhu Hong, the Singapore streets and landscapes he paints are only the beginning. In his future works, words will become an increasingly important part of the image — not only describing what he sees, but also revealing what he imagines, remembers and feels.

The words may lead us beyond the physical scene, offering glimpses into the artist’s thoughts and inner world.

Some views stay with us long after the journey ends.

Here’s sharing a segment from a video produced by our gallery in 2019. Artist Terence Teo shares the story behind his Morning Sky series. It is a collection of paintings inspired by a particular scenery he encountered during a trip to Langkawi, a view so beautiful that it remained in his memory long after he returned home.

The series brings together two elements of the landscape: trees and skies. Through warm sunlight, soft clouds and the richness of nature, Terence seeks to not only recreate what he saw, but also to create opportunities for the viewer to imagine, feel and experience the warmth of the sun while being surrounded by nature.

Mr Sim Kwang Hun has devoted many decades to the practice, teaching and sharing of Chinese calligraphy.

In 1992, he was selected by the Singapore Tourism Promotion Board, together with fellow artist Chua Ek Kay, to represent Singapore at the Seville Expo in Spain, where they conducted live calligraphy and painting demonstrations.

Beyond practising calligraphy, Mr Sim has also contributed to the study of the art form in Singapore. In 2004, he published “The Evolution of Chinese Cursive Writing”, a book exploring the origins, development and techniques of cursive script.

In this reel, we follow Victor Ang as he signs his calligraphy works before they are framed. He later signs a certificate for a writing that has found its new home.

There is something meaningful in this simple act. Once a work leaves the artist’s studio, it begins a new chapter—as something to be appreciated, lived with and eventually passed on.

Art thus becomes a quiet exchange between creator and collector: the passing of an artistic expression from one pair of hands to another, and with it, a part of culture, tradition and legacy.

Painting indoors offers a controlled and comfortable environment, where the lighting remains constant and Marvin Chew can work at his own pace. Painting outdoors is an entirely different experience — passing vehicles, people walking by, changing light and unpredictable weather can all become part of the process.

A bright sunny scene at the beginning may gradually transform as clouds gather and rain arrives, bringing unexpected changes to the painting. For Marvin, this unpredictability is part of the excitement of painting outdoors, creating new challenges, emotions and discoveries with every painting.

Zhu Hong invites audiences to approach his paintings with an open mind, allowing each work to reveal its own atmosphere and character.

This can be seen clearly in these two paintings of Chinatown: one captures the quiet, contemplative mood of a rainy day, while the other presents Chinatown in a warm, lively and bustling atmosphere. Although they depict the same familiar place, the two works evoke different sensations and experiences.

At 81, Mr Sim Kwang Hun’s brush moves with confidence and rhythm. What stands out is not only the finished piece, but the tempo of his movements, the certainty of each brushstroke, and the vitality that continues to flow through his work.

A beautiful reminder that mastery is not simply about what the hand can do, but what years of practice have made instinctive.

Here, Mr Sim writes the phrase 平安当大赚—a simple yet meaningful expression that reminds us that being safe, well and at peace is perhaps the greatest fortune of all.
