Artist Ho Sou Ping, an aerospace engineer-turned-artist started painting when he was just 13. But in those days, art was not a common profession and no one propagated the idea of pursuing one's interest," he said. Convincing himself that art should be "done on the sidelines", he focused on his academics and even went on to do a master's degree in Business. But he never gave up on his art. He always found time to paint "Sometimes I get so engrossed in painting, I forget to eat," he said. Despite doing well in his corporate life, he set himself a deadline to retire at 50 to paint full-time. After making a conscious decision to go full-time, things fell into place. He found two sponsors who were willing to invest in his venture as silent partners. He finally opened artcommune gallery in October 2009. artcommune gallery was born.

To offer visitors a deeper understanding of the exhibition’s curatorial approach and the relationship between the artworks and the places they depict, artcommune gallery will present its first ever artist-led walking tour, ‘Walking into Chinatown: Art in Situ’. Led by the artist himself, the tour invites participants to step beyond the gallery and retrace the streets, histories and perspectives that Tung has observed and painted over the years, while (re)discovering Chinatown through the artist’s lens.

For Tung, is more than a backdrop for his paintings. It is a creative environment shaped by years of observation, sketching and lived experience. As participants walk through these streets, they will be encouraged to consider the places and perspectives from which Tung observed his surroundings: What did he see? Why did he choose this viewpoint? What was it about a seemingly ordinary street that made it worth painting?

artcommune gallery proudly presents TEXTURES OF LONGING AND BELONGING, a solo exhibition by Tung Yue Nang, opening on 19 September 2026 and curated by Yang Jye Ru. Featuring around 15 works created between 2018 and 2026, the exhibition focuses on Tung’s depictions of Singapore’s urban landscape, including familiar places such as Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Joo Chiat, Pulau Ubin and the Singapore River. Through his artistic treatment, these familiar everyday landscapes become more than representations of the city; they invite us to see the city anew and reflect on our relationship with it.

Bringing Art into the Workplace - The Art Nexus Collection

29 August 2026 — As an extension of ROOTS & RESONANCE 2026 and part of a concerted effort to bring selected works from the Art Nexus, Singapore collection into the public realm, Singapore Gallery Month Patron Pass holders were treated to a morning tour of Financial Alliance’s Singapore office, where the first hang of artworks was on view.

Art Nexus founder Mr. Choon Yong Stephen Teo was on hand to share his thoughts on the importance of strategic partnerships and the collective effort required to advance Singapore’s art scene. He spoke about the value of bringing together members of the wider arts community — artists, local galleries, Art Galleries Association Singapore (AGAS), corporate sponsors, fellow collectors, art handlers, logistical partners and more — united by a common commitment to supporting the arts.

The morning was kept informal, with conversations flowing freely among all who were present.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a very special thank you once again to for making this opportunity possible and providing a space for like-minded individuals to come together in the interest of art.

🎨💼 Where art lives, works, and inspires every day

At the Financial Alliance office, selected masterworks from the Art Nexus collection are thoughtfully integrated into the workspace, giving staff, clients and visitors the opportunity to encounter Singapore art and cultural heritage in a more natural, everyday setting.

The display is a meaningful example of how private collecting and corporate support can come together to give local art greater visibility. Together with Financial Alliance’s principal sponsorship of ‘Roots & Resonance’ as part of a three-year CSR collaboration, it reflects a shared commitment to deepening appreciation for Singapore artists and supporting the local arts ecosystem.
