About the gallery / gallery statement

tegenboschvanvreden started in 2009 in a former carpenter’s workshop at the Bloemgracht, one of the canals in the Jordaan, a famous cultural area in Amsterdam. The gallery is run by Pietje Tegenbosch and Martin van Vreden. It presents a program of exhibitions by internationally oriented, mainly young artists. Next to that a parallel program of performances, a

rtist talks, lectures, filmscreenings, book presentations and discussions generates a dynamic context. The gallery aims at realising interesting collaboration projects with different parties, either in the art world or from other (cultural, business) fields. The main objective of tegenboschvanvreden is to create a lively platform for contemporary art and the theoretical discourse.

We are happy to present the opening of INTERVIEW: a duo show with new works by Ricardo van Eyk and Han Schuil at the gallery in Amsterdam on Saturday, September 5, from 5 to 7 pm.

The title INTERVIEW, from the French entrevue, expresses the idea of an encounter. In the exhibition, this encounter becomes literally visible in the relationship that the works take on with each other. The earthly, physical drive in Van Eyk’s paintings is coupled with the sublimated intensity of Schuil’s works.

Third Opinion | opening April 18, 5-7 pm

We are elated to announce ‘Third Opinion’: a solo presentation with new works by Lieve Hakkers.

Hakkers embraces mystery as a generative force to mold a universe where ambiguity and opacity takes precedence over clarity. Rather than offering fixed meanings, the works unfold as open visual fields - it is up to the observer to excavate the images in order to find out what rules and laws apply in her painted and drawn world.

We look forward to seeing you at the festive opening in the gallery on Saturday April 18 from 5 to 7 pm!
