🆘 VENEZUELA 🇻🇪
On 24 June 2026, two large strike-slip earthquakes struck northwestern and central Venezuela. Both epicenters were located in Veroes Municipality, west of San Felipe, the capital of Yaracuy State.
The first earthquake, measuring Mw 7.2, occurred at 18:04 VET and is considered a foreshock. It was followed just 39 seconds later by a Mw 7.5 mainshock.
The twin earthquakes caused widespread destruction across the country, particularly in La Guaira and Caracas, making them the deadliest natural disaster in Venezuela’s modern history.
As of early July 2026, the official death toll has risen to 3,535, with 16,740 people injured and nearly 18,000 left homeless. Thousands of people also remain missing or unaccounted for as search and recovery operations continue.

The image depicts a section of El Ávila, the mountain that is both a National Park and the green lung of Caracas. The planet is in constant motion, and so are we. A photograph preserves a moment within that continuous movement in which we live.
